don't do it man... every cage kicker (31E) that i have talked to.... YEAH THEY HATE IT!!!! If you want to become a cop... cause you get the same training as a 31B (Military Police). So you might as well get to roll around in a cop car and carry a m-9 all day. But look out, the hours suck but when you actually get to help someone out... it all falls behind you and its all good

berwin...as a 31e who works with tons of 11b reclasses (seems to be a favorite mos to switch to) they all say its not much worse than the 11b route...at leavenworth as a 31e the days (or nights) are 9-12 hours long, but you have (at least i think) some of the best ncos and senior ncos the army has to offer...the job is as hard as you make it...i made it thru the ait like a breeze...31e isn't that bad at all and being in iraq now you'll come stateside and if your at leavenworth your guaranteed 2 years stateside cuz its a tradoc post (correct me if i'm wrong please)...i know you'll at least be here 2 years before you go to cuba...but just check the in/out calls i haven't seen them lately but i'm sure we have a yes on the in column...if you have any specific questions pertaining to the 31e mos please feel free to pm me or you can keep it public on the forum so everyone can learn from it...

NO its not that i want to be a cop its something ive always want to do. (work in the jail/prison system). im just wondering how hard its going to be for me to get that job. the military makes it difficult to get what you want. ive already had one knee sugery since ive been in and deployed now and these job might be a change of pace and something i would actually do if i got out anyways

Since you are an initial term Soldier (I'm assuming you haven't reenlisted yet) you are qualified for Option 3, Army Training Reenlistment Option.

Also, since 31E is understrength through SSG (and your current MOS is understrength), HRC will determine if they can grant you this request. From previous experience, chances are good moving from one understrength MOS to another.

Currently, there are no available training seats for 31E and until HRC can obtain more class seats, you cannot get this MOS.

One last question ... when did you report to Hawaii?

This is totally inaccurate. Besides, you've only been in the military two years now ... do you think you are really qualifed to make this statement?

to add on to what AR is saying...the mos 31e, in the past year and some change, has switched from an osut to a bct/ait type of training...we used to go to osut with the 31b's, but now the new soldiers are going to basic in, usually, knox, then reporting to ait at fort leonard wood...there is only one small training battalion with three training companies...its the 796th MP BN Training...and you have a/b/c companys...my brother just graduated july 07 in a company of 25ish...so class seats will be hard to come by...if you really want it keep hounding your career counselor to check for the open seats because they usually fill fast...and thank you for that info AR i've got a buddy who was wondering if we had seats available for a reclass...

Hounding doesn't really work ... asking the Career Counselor to check and get back with you is better ... also, when I see the change (I check daily), I will post in this comunity.

im here to find information on what i want to do with my career if you want to make comments like that AR then please take them somewhere else thank you. When i made the comment that the military makes it hard to get what you want its really not that stupid of a comment or i wouldn't have ask any questions about this. it doesn't take someone being in the military more then 2 years to realize how to play the game. IF ITS NOT DIFFECULT THAT TELL ME HOW TO MAKE IT EASY?

Its not a game bro. However the moderator is the Subject Matter Expert so if he quotes an AR I would listen. The Army can only give you what is available. There are only so many school seats for reclass, and so many school seats for Soldiers enlisting. If you want an MOS that is a shortage MOS all you have to do is wait for the Army to load in more school seats. There will be more openings, and I am sure that the moderator will comment about possibly when this could happen.

Calm down now. When a Soldier states that the military doesn't make things easier to get, you're making an inaccurate statement. Just because YOU don't understand how it works or how you get what you want, doesn't mean it's not easy.

I didn't know crap about how the Army worked until my second reenlistment and I still didn't know enough to get what I wanted. I have learned from experience and the experiences of others. I have also dedicated the last five years to getting the word out to our Soldiers through any means necessary; so whenI say you are not qualified to make that statement, I'm not being mean, I'm being truthful.

Am I not making it easy for you by laying it out for you above?

Also, if you get the opportunity to select Option 3 while deployed, you'll be eligible for a Deployed Selective Reenlistment Bonus.

Thanks, jgarner ... I don't think there's butting of the heads here, just some miscommunication. It's very hard to express your emotions/feelings through letters (word) alone ... even with these cool emoticons! Smiler Big Grin Wink Razzer Eeker

Besides, I'll give the benefit of the doubt to berwin...sorry if I offended you.
