What is the possibility that I will be able to get out of my current MOS even though the in/out calls say that I am not able to get out? Also, is there a chance that I could get an assignment preference with this new PMOS?
If you are an initial-term Soldier and wihtin 24-months from ETS, you will be offered Option 3, Army Training Option and if you qualify for those MOSs, you can more than likely obtain one. You may also qualify for the BEAR Program
As for the assignment of choice, you can request up to four locations, but the assignment is not guaranteed.
If you are not an initial term Soldier or a Soldier outside of the 24-month reenlistment window, you can request reclassification to a shortage military intelligence MOS regardless of your MOSs In/Out Calls.
I am not an initial term soldier. My rank is E-5. I just reelisted in Feb 2006. Also, I just got to the duty station that I reenlisted for in June 2006. About changing MOS's, all I need to do is fill DA Form 4187? Also, is there a time line for you being at your current duty station?
You must be on station for 24-months (may be waived to 12-months for reenlistment purposes). If your unit/installation needs the requested MOS and is willing to pay for training, you may be authorized TDY and return.
Submit a DA Form 4187 (with help from your Career Counselor) through your chain of command to your Career Counselor for processing.
Note: If your Chain of Command recommends disapproval, it's just that ... a recommendation. HRC has the approval/disapproval authority.
