Hey everyone, I am a SGT 21B, currently deployed for the 2nd time to Iraq. I have 5 1/2 years in, on my second reenlistment (though i took no bonus, as it was a "forced" reenlistment). I ETS in a year, and I want to stay in but change jobs. I was looking at 25B, and everything I read sounds like it is more my style. I was hoping some of you all could tell me what to expect, if its worth it, how good promotions are, etc. Just want a bit more testimony before I sign again.
Its been my MOS for almost 6 years now. Its an everchanging MOS. New hardware/ software, and the requirments that come with them. New equipment equals new problems equals new solutions. Its the only MOS I wanted, and still is. If you have a desire to learn alot then you'll be fine. You gotta be customer service minded, and not be affraid to admit when you don't know something. Like I said things change so much so you won't know it all.
Promotions wise, as with any MOS PVT-SSG is based on you, and your effort. I'm getting ready to be a SSG in just under 6 years. Points have been up for the last 2 years because so many other MOS's are being rolled into 25B, but its not at 798 every month.
The commercial side or Garrison side is probably the more relaxed side, do to the fact that they have a lot of civilian slots, so you work with experienced people who can help you learn. The tactical side (yes there is one, {CPN}) is a little harder because its just you and your Soldiers, but at the same time it gives you a better sense of what works and doesn't work, which in turn helps you out when you are working the commercial or Garrison side.
I think I worded it a little wrong. My unit was disbanding, and I was 3 years out of my ETS date, so in order to go anywhere but right back to Iraq, we had to reup for it. I chose to reup for Ft Benning, and forgo a bonus, because it would be peanuts anyway. Funny thing about the Benning reup, exactly 12 months later i was put on orders to go to Hood, and Iraq shortly after. Guess you cant cheat deployment, eh?

Not likely, but some find a way.
As for your reclassing, since you are a mid-career Soldier, you will not be offered Option 3, Army Training Reenlistment Option. However, since your MOS is balanced, you can request an option exception through your Career Counselor (if you 100% qualify for the MOS).
