I am a 42A10 and would like to reclass. I wanted some input on several of the following MOS's. I keep lingering on a few, 14S, 14J, 21P, and 94S. As far as line scores and clearances I will have no problem. However, I cannot seem to come to a decision. All have decently low points but also have corresponding pros and cons. 21P and 94S have year long training (which i dont have experience in but can complete), and the 14 series have shorter schools, but more (Line/Team) Leadership Opportunity. With all the reenlistment problems lately, im not sure if the 14J and 94S are going to be availible under option 3, but i guess we'll have to see what October has in store. I want to be a fast tracking junior Nco, and feel these occupations will offer an opportunity unlike the Adjutant General Branch.

I will save you some trouble. Better pick something from the BEAR program or go to in/out calls and pick an MOS that is listed as a shortage. My MOS was balanced. I have three reclassification requests denied because they were balanced as well.

The Army finally suckered me into 11B since all the other MOSs, Cav Scout/Forward Observer, did infantry stuff anyways I figured what the hell. Same animal, different job function. I was just looking for something that was a little more specialized, but the Army did not need me there.

Right, i saw on one of your posts that you reclassed, i have done research on in and out calls/promotion point trends and came to these four. According to the current milper messages these 4 are shortage. Bragg, did you request voluntary or Option 3 when you went through the process? Also, i am not in my window yet but i want to either reclass early via 4187/anyway possible. Currently deployed, and tenative redeployment will be the opening of my window.

Remember Prime Power Production requires additional testing. It is not an easy test from what I understand. I guess it is not DLAB hard, but still hard none the less.

Basically schedule and take the test first, before you even consider it an option.

Note taken Corvette, im looking at pinpointing my interest with input about what our peers have to say about the MOS. I need some clarification... Both Bear and Option 3 open up at 2 years out. With Bear you must extend before going to school to meet the SRR, then chosen to reenlist for SRB amount. Option 3 you reenlist for the definite amount of time to correspond with the ATTRS dates, and get paid the SRB amount as well right? Correct me if i am misunderstanding. With Bear the training is almost always gonna get approved, and Option 3 has to get sent up and checked on by the strength managers first before they will approve reclass training in the requested mos(s)? A Hit or Miss shall we say, and if you want to try for another job send another "Hotline". Generally speaking they approve what the army needs Y/N(understrength) and not the balanced fields.

Also what do you think the chances are of me submitting a Da 4187 requesting Voluntary Reclassification and getting approved? I don't believe it would fly with the AG Branch being Balanced but so uptight about strength.

Try it and see what happens. At least you know when someone is sitting on your paperwork. My thought is that unless you are going Infantry it will be difficult.

I'm not sure what rank you are Want, but make sure to take a look at the E-5 AND E-6 promo scores. I originally wanted to re-class to 27D, and then I looked at the E-6 points. If the E-6 points are and have been 798 for awhile, find something else.

Roger, I am a SPC, and have done research on Promotion Point Trends in all of these MOSs. All currently have low e5 points, and E-6 as well. The only exception is 14S has max points for e6 lately. I think i will get with my S-1 NCO and get a handy dandy 4187 to initiate my request. Also i cant imagine that Avenger would be any more difficult to request than Infantry since 14S has been on the Bear list for a while.
