A soldier just had "surgery" on his right hand to remove 2 pieces of metal in his hand. He was put on a temporary profile while his incisions heal. The profile started 07 JAN 14 to 30 JAN 14, but had it terminated 23 JAN 14 in hopes to taking a record APFT for re-class. His school date is 24 FEB 14. I am aware that the recovery time is 3x the amount of the profile. Soldier is wanting to waive the recovery and take a record APFT for the brigade so he can continue onto school. His incisions are healed, but stiches still in hand. Soldier has been doing push ups on his off time and says he is fine to take a record APFT and pass with confidence. How do I go about waiving his recovery so he can go to school on time?

I'm pretty sure you just need a memo from his primary care provider stating that he is clear to do it. In our unit if a Soldier wants to wave their recovery time, they just say so and thats it. However I think the right way to do it is get a memo saying they are good to go.

Recovery is intended to get you back up to pace with the rest of the unit. They allow you to do it at your own pace. Some people recover faster than others. Only time I've ever seen an issue is when a Soldier is forced to take an a APFT while on recovery.

He has a appointment the 28th with the provider. I will be sure to tell him to get a note stating he will be okay to take a record APFT. Thanks for the replies. I will let you all know how its goes. Thanks again!

A few years back I was 2 and 1/2 months on no running profile. Two days after my profiled expired i took a PT test. I wanted to take the test so i can go to the board next month, so i didn't told anyone that i just got off the profile...and nobody asked me about the recovery time. I had no note from the doctor, or anyone else saying that i can take the PT test. I think that if the Soldier wants to take the PT test and he/she knows he/she can pass it, i don't see why not let him/her do it.
