I'm a first term soldier wanting to reclass/reenlist. I've been in the Army for 3 years now and I just found out that I'm pregnant so I know thats going to put a hold on things, however, I'm an E-5 31B wanting to reclass to 38B. My ETS date is 20 APR 2010. My question is can I reenlist and choose the option to reclass but with a school date after the birth of my child?

As long as nobody knows about your pregnancy you can do it while pregnant. All you gotta do is pull a "oops Im pregnant" right after you get there. Ive seen it happen a lot. If you dont wanna go that route though then I know as for myself I just reenlisted for a reclass and the earliest date they could give me was 20 March 09. So they should be able to give you whatever date you need.

Although you cannot attend AIT while pregnant, I would process you for the MOS (if you fully qualify) with a note from your doctor stating expectant delivery date plus profile.

However, if no class seats are available after your eligible, you'll have to wait.

Another question: If I choose to reenlist/reclass now would I qualify for a bonus if so, how much?

38B is on the BEAR program for E-5s and E-6s. You could easily get $10,000 depending on how long you want to reenlist for. Although your MOS is at a shortage. So, no BEAR program for you. Somebody correct me if Im wrong. I didnt get a bonus with my reenlistment for reclass though. Youll still get free medical care, free food, and free housing so that should be bonus enough right?

Yeah...that's sound advice; do you have Soldiers who depend on your leadership traits? Eeker

All Council is doing is planning her family at the same time she is planning her military career. She is thinking ahead and rationally planning her future.
She is not trying to use her pregnancy to get out of a field problem, a deployment, PT, the rifle range. All she is doing is planning on re-enlisting in the Army and starting a family.
Sheesh CCMSG....if you didnt have the Army in your life, Ill bet you would be one lonely person. Do you have an altar you light candels to and rub your coins every nite?

This is such a idiotic remark (I guess we posted at nearly the same time and I missed this).

Article 83. Fraudulent enlistment, appointment, or separation

Any person who— (1) procures his own enlistment or appointment in the armed forces by knowingly false representation or deliberate concealment as to his qualifications for that enlistment or appointment and receives pay or allowances thereunder; or (2) procures his own separation from the armed forces by knowingly false representation or deliberate concealment as to his eligibility for that separation;
shall be punished as a court-martial may direct.

No one is disputing SGT Council's posts ... she's doing the right thing by asking questions.

You will not receive a bonus for reenlisting for Option 3, Army Training Reenlistment Option. (Because you are not qualified in the MOS)

Even though Junior1987 mentioned the BEAR Program, you cannot do this program because your MOS is understrength. Your MOS must be balanced or overstrength for the BEAR Program.

So you're basically saying I cannot reclass? Well then... if reclassing is not an option for me can you tell me what is?

No, you can reenlist for Option 3, but you'll probably need to complete the packet with your Career Counselor ... just be up front with everything and bring that doctors note/recommendations.

You can't extend under the BEAR Program ... this is different that Option 3.

Thanks for all the information you've given me. I don't plan on not telling anyone that I'm pregnant, just in case you were worried. LOL I just wanted to make sure that having a child in the Army won't set my career back completely. I'll definately take heed to all of your advice. Thanks alot!!

I wasn't concerned at all ... you see like a stand-up and honest person. You came to the right place for the most accurate information.

Even though having a family will not set you back in your Army career, you'll need to balanced both ... but your family has always got to be #1. (My career has thrived with my family - they're my Career Support) You'll do fine.
