I am an E-4 (non-p) 25U (which is both understrength and on the BEAR program) and I would like to reclass to 68X (mental health specialist, also understrength). My future plans are to become a Marriage/Family Therapist (working on my associates now) and I feel 68X could benefit me very much (possibly count as work experience towards grad school?) but my PMOS and 68X are both understrength and since 25U is in the BEAR program it would seem my PMOS has priority. I reenlisted in October (right after we deployed) because I needed the $ to pay off some debt and my new ETS is 10/2011. I am debating putting in a 4187. There is no doubt that my CDR and 1SG would approve it as they both know my plans and stand behind me on it all the way. What would my chances be of actually getting that approved beyond them though?

HRC is the approval/disapproval authority for reclassification actions.

Since both MOSs are understrength, HRC will make the determination based on projected strengths ... it won't hurt to try.

See your Career Counselor for processing your reclassification packet.

(b) A minimum score of 102 in aptitude area ST on ASVAB tests administered on and after 2 January 2002 and prior to 1 July 2004.
(c) A minimum score of 101 in aptitude area ST on ASVAB tests administered on and after 1 July 2004.
(4) No history of a felony conviction.
(5) No history of conviction of crimes involving:
(a) Any weapons/ammunition/explosives/arson charges.
(b) Any drug activity involving illegal possession, buying, selling or distribution (dealing) of controlled substances or synthetics.
(c) Violence against persons or property.
(d) Sexual misconduct.
(6) No record of conviction by special or general courts-martial or civilian courts of offenses listed in AR 27-10 (Military Justice), chapter 24 or otherwise required to register as a sexual offender under AR 27-10, chapter 24.
(7) Formal training (completion of 68X course conducted under the auspices of the AMEDDC&S) mandatory.

I'll do that then. I meet qualifications easily. I got a 121 on my ASVAB and have nothing on my criminal record period. Thank you for your help.
