I'm sure all of you know the store "Spencer's". It's a store that sells all kinds of weird gag gifts and what not, their usually found in your local mall. Anyway, do not shop there, don't buy anything from them, their employees disrespected myself and my wife, because "we are the reason people are dying in Iraq", that's right it's the military's fault, yet they have signs posted thanking us for our service with a 10% discount on all purchases. I've written the customer service people, and am currently awaiting an explanation for the utter disrespect directed toward myself and fellow men and women in uniform. More to come as events occur.
I'm pretty sure that was the sentiments of a few misinformed employees and not actually the thoughts and sentiments of the chain. If anything you have people boycott the store in which the incident occured until you get a formal apology or the offending parties are disciplined and/or fired.
And no, I'm not condoning the actions of the individuals.
sue em !! there is nothing that says you cant sue them for emotional distress!! i would take everything i could from their business and maybe you might become 1/100th of an owner of spencers and make lots of cash.
You'd have a hard time with that lawsuit. Remember that 1st amendment of the constitution you defend?
Besides, you were in Spencer's. Common sense indicates that the type of crowd in that store isn't gonna be fully supportive of the Army's involvement in Iraq. Obviously the corporate office is supportive if you got a discount. Just because one employee voiced his/her opinion, which happened to be contrary to yours, you get bent out of shape?
That person's right to voice their opinion is the very reason you have a job. Not to mention, you were out in the civilian world, not the Army world.
Emotional distress? I'd expect more from a soldier.
Hey bro, forget about those assclowns. I am stationed here at a university in NC. No military for miles....almost everyday someone comes up to me and thanks me for my service, young and old alike.
But, when they are working they represent their company. If the employee was a racist and made a comment about not liking black customers, there would be a problem. If I were the manager, the employee would be gone in a heartbeat. Out of curiousity, where did the happen?

coming home for Christmas last year, I was in my home town airport and some hippy spit on me.
People that say things or do things to disrespect, want a reaction. Don't give them one. That dirty hippy just wanted a reason to try and get me in trouble, to give the Army a bad name. Just don't let it get to you, your goin to deal with it everywhere.
What bout past soldiers? Vietnam? The stories my dad and uncles told me are awful with the way they were treated when they came home.
Drive on sgt.

There's no doubt in my mind this employee was fishing for a reaction. The temptation to knock out this chicks fronts was almost overwhelming. I've contacted the manager, and the guest service folks online, but haven't gotten anything back. I'd like to see the girl fired, but a formal apology would be fine.

We'd like to see a lot of things happen during our life. Growing up in an extreme liberal state, I've pretty much figured out that apologies rarely(if ever) come.
Good luck, I will side for the fact that she as an employee should get the boot for mistreating a customer.

It happens all the time, I had a person tell me I was a "baby-killer" when I was playing on XBOX live. After a heated debate and some explaining to this college student the real situation in Iraq, then he apologized. But he told me that the emphasis at a lot of colleges is anti-military because they have to attempt to tie the whole "military-industrail-complex" ie. the current administration....blah blah blah. Anyway, the U.S. is not in a "total war" mind set. Unlike WW2 the only people who are effected by the situations in Iraq and Afghanistan are those who have friends in family in the service. Everyone else is worried about the o-zones and melting polar ice caps than the American overseas.

I hope you get the closure you need /deserve on the matter. Whether that's monetary or the employee being fired, keep your eye on what's important to you. Good luck and keep us updated.
