Long story short, I have done extensive research on reclassing into 35L, but I am stumped on the ST score. I do know, however, that the score needed is 105 or better. Is this waiberable? I have read AR 601-280 para 3-8c, and all that did was confuse me even more. If anyone has and knowledge on this please fill me in, especially if you have gone thru the process yourself. I just dont want to make a decision uninformed. Thanks.

Its right up there with unicorns and Bigfoot. It is one of those things that can happen when soldiers come into the Army, but I have yet to see happen for when they choose to stay in the Army (ie Reenlist). Take the FAST class and improve your score.

From what I understand the DLAB is not a prereq for 35L. It is for Psi-Ops and 35W, some 35N, and most 35P (if not then DLPT, if the soldier is allready proficient in a foreign language.

Get in contact with the MI unit on your base. They should be able to point you in the direction of a CI agent who will handle your reclass packet.

Get in contact with your local MI field office on your installation and they will give you a list of what you need to get done. The best advice that I can give you is if you really want to do this then read up on all the regs. and all the other publications out there about the MI field, 35L to be exact.

Corvette1140, you are right about the DLAB not being required for the MOS but it is highly encouraged from what the MI agents have told me. They basically said that if they send my packet up to DA and another soldiers and our packets and scores and everything are neck and neck. If mine has the DLAB and theirs doesnt then they will choose mine over the other soldiers for that simple fact that I had taken the DLAB. There is no score that they are looking for but of course with everything else, the higher the better.

Good luck on the DLAB. It is prolly the hardest test that a soldier can ever take. If you are all ready proficient in a foreign language then I encourage you to take the DLPT instead. Good luck and even if you do not do well on the DLAB please come back and inform the forum that it is no joke so this way there will not be tons of people assuming that they are qualified for an MOS that they really do not know a lot about. Catch my drift?

On a side note if you are lucky/brilliant enough to pass the DLAB I encourage you to weigh the possibilities that are available through Army Attache. A google search will give you the info you need for an explanation of what it is that they do.

Where can I take the DLAB or the DLPT? I'd like to take both.

Through your local education center, and generally only available every 6 months.

Like stickboy said, the best place to get info is from the FM. Your local CI agent will also give you a description of the MOS before the interview. I think there was a topic on here a few months back where a 35L described the job in a nutshell.

I'm currently finishing up my packet and haven't been told anything about the DLAB being preferred although I'm not saying that it's not the case. I'm glad I've already taken it and hopefully that does help.

The one place that I found most of the information for the MOS is on wikipedia, believe it or not. It has all of the requirements that is needed. But not trusting wikipedia as a sound military source of information I looked everything up and everything that was on the site I found out to be true. As far as the DLAB, you really cant study for it. The main thing that I have been told is if you have a firm grasp on the English language, as far as grammer and what not, then you will do fairly good. Other wise it is just being able to pick up on how the "language" is written/spoken. I will diffently let everyone know how I did after I take it, which should be sometime soon.
