I'm a SGT/E5 currently deployed but stationed in Germany. Recently, I put in a 4187 for a voluntarily reclass to 31E. My question is, if my request for reclass gets approved how can i get an assignment to remain in Germany or an assignment to Korea? Since my family and I are already stationed in germany it would be easier for us to move to Mannheim,GE rather than going back to CONUS. Would it be proper for me to contact the branch manager for 31E once my 4187 is approved? What are my chances? Thanks!!!!

gryphon5, first off let me welcome you to the wonderful MOS of 31E...if you have any questions at all concerning the 31E field i'm your man...AR, selecting 4 places as a 31E pretty much is all you have...leavenworth, cuba, germany, korea, lewis, sill, knox...thats all you really have minus the liason slots such as charleston, miramar, pearl harbor (not sure if this one is still open), among others...i highly doubt germany or korea will happen too much...we've had people who've re-upped for korea, germany, and lewis and still are awaiting orders...knox and sill are closing and moving to leavenworth as part of the base closure and realignment thingy...thats my 2 cents

i've research all over the internet and read the MOS duties and responsibilities for 31E.I also spoke to some 31B's about the 31E field but never with a 31E. so i can say my knowledge of 31E field is limited and vague. Can you please give me some info on the daily duties of a 31E? What will my job be since i'll be coming in as a SGT? Working hours/shifts? family time? promotions/career advancement? Thanks!!! appreciate the help.

okay...i can speak first hand of leavenworth and second hand of cuba...everywhere else i don't know for sure...as a SGT you will be a team/squad leader, working the same shift as your company...at leavenworth we have 3 shifts, days (0600-1400), swings (1400-2200), and mids (2200-0600)...there will be more specifics when you get to your unit, like showing up 30+ mins early for guard mount, at 0415 or 1315 for escorts and i wont even get into day jobs yet...p.t. is normally 30-45 minutes after shift ends and lasts from 45-60 minutes...thats the normality...concerning family time, i believe i have ample time with my wife and newborn...you can work anywhere from a 3 day on 2 days off, to a 9 day on 2 day off...but you will always get your 2 off...concerning promotions, you will normally always get picked up on waivers...points are generally low...and if you've been in 4 years be ready for the promotion board...the biggest thing that we have trouble with around here is overweight/pt failures...if you have a high level of self discipline you will do fine...high pt is few and far apart here...if you have any other questions please feel free to ask...i also ask you to post them out here in the forum so that others can benefit from your curiosity...

WOW, 31E huh??? I'm a 42 and I admit, I use to give these guys all kinds of crap when I was stationed at Leavenworth but since I've been here in Cuba, I respect the hell out of these guys for what they do. You got your few knuckleheads but the majority do their job and do it well beyond the standard. Like jgarner said, your options as far as location is limited. I get to speak to the 31 branch alot and Germany is DEFINITELY a no-no. They are like 125% overstrength. They are pushing people more towards Sill & Knox. Thats coming down from big Army. Not trying to burst your bubble but that was the last thing that was told to me and that wasn't more than 3 wks ago.
