Hello everyone, I've spent the past week scrubbing for the forums and google looking for information relating to reclassing, duty assignments, IT related MOS, etc. I still have a few blanks..

First, my current experience so far in the service:
I spent my basic training at ft leonardwood, AIT at FT Sill, and immediately shipped off to korea as my first duty assignment. I went ahead and AIP'd here for 1 extra year because my initial thinking was to get out.. but now I have come to realize that I don't hate the army, just my job position. My passion is computers and technology and I found (from goarmy.com) that 25B would be the ideal position because its centered arround being a tech.

The meat of this post:

1. I was able to move from PVT to SPC in about a year upon arriving at my duty station, my nose is as clean as it can be from fear of getting into any trouble of any kind. But I have come to find out most multi-duty stationed ncos are calling S. Korea "It's own army, and not the real army." What do they mean? I don't mean in terms of "Is it harder in the states" because its the army and I forgot my diapers when i hit MEPS. I just want more information..

2. How is life at your real duty station as a 25B? What kind of units are there that you may be attached to? It'd be ironicly funny if I end up back at my current S-6...

3. As this is my first current duty station, I know nothing else besides TRADOC. I don't even know what to ask for in my re-enlistment/re-class packet, or requests.. Any suggestions?

4. I've seen plenty of posts regarding MOS-I/IET training at Ft Gordon, but not alot on MOS-T.. I'd like to know (A 2007 point of view) of how the training is conducted, organization, etc.. I work in the orderly/training room right now and I understand how miscommunication and "Ooops, I lost the document" situations go..

5. Do I have any reason to be as nervous as I am about staying army and possibly being a lifer?

Thank you so much in advance!
SPC Wil

Ironically I'm a 25B and my first duty station was Camp Red Cloud, Korea. I was part of the G6 and I did a lot of trouble tickets while I was there which means basically I got to do my job...

The difference between the States and overseas like Korea is that in Korea you do your job while in the States your job is basically to call the civilians and have them fix your stuff for you... even if you know how to and they don't. THough that's the only real difference I can tell you about Korea and my next duty station as I went to an EOD battalion and it's not the real army either.

Life as a 25B like I said before is at the States is calling up civilians a lof times and have them fix problems. You might have rights to add printers and you'll mainly be concerned with setting up outlook accounts, PST files, making sure connection is kept, and basically doing the miscellaneous tasks of a unit.

To reclass to a 25B if they let you as I'm not sure of the in/out call of both 13B and 25B but you simply ask for a class date in your re-enlistment and then you get your bonus as a 25B which is 1A along with the class option which will simply be a class date.

I'm not sure about current training though as it's been 4 years but anything current with IET training for 25B is what's currently going on as you will be in a class with IET soldiers along with other reclass soldiers.

Only thing you have to be nervous about is whether or not you really feel the army is for you. I think you are scared that even after you reclass you still won't like the army and regret your choice. Basically roll with the punches it's not really as bad as it seems. Sometimes there are some bad days but overall the experience is just like the civilian world.

If you reenlist to reclas you don't get the bonus for that mos. The only way you get a bonus for a mos you are reclassing to is through the BEAR program which 25B is not on.

If you select Option 3, Army Training Reenlistment Option, you may be offered 25B. If you are not offered this MOS, ask your Career Counselor to request it using a "HOTLINE".

As for the bonus that Army25B was talking about, alaskaviper is right, you will not get a bonus if you select Option 3. Why not? Because you are not technically qualifed in that MOS yet.
