Hello,

I am reenlisting shortly for a pick of duty station. I was going to try to use Option 3 of my reenlistment to switch to 35M, but it is limited to Staff Sergeants.

If I reenlist now, and when I make SSG, will I be able to use Option 3 on my next reenlistment to reclass to 35M?

Here's my stats:
11B2O, BASD 21JUL04, ETS 30NOV2009

I meet all the requirements for 35M except the SSG requirement.

Thanks.

Are you a first-term soldier? (I'm assuming so)

Correct me if I'm wrong, AR, but can't he re-up regardless for 35M since he is initial term? Isn't the SSG+ thing just for BEAR?

By looking at the subject, pyroandbozzt, is probably a mid-career Soldier and therefore will not be offered Option 3, Army Training Reenlistment Option.

Also, 35M is not taking SGTs into the program (this is what I am seeing when Soldiers are requesting this through HRC).

Since 35M is a shortage MOS at SSG, depending on the retention policy when you reenlist again, you can probably get an exception to reenlist for Option 3 if you're under 10 years active service.

I guess I just looked at only 5 years TIS and I figured that was an initial contract despite the title.

Either way, I knew you'd chime in :P

Actually I am an initial-term soldier. Sorry about the heading, I put it there because once I reenlist I thought I would be considered a midcareer soldier.

Right now I am still on my first enlistment which started on 21JUL2004 and ends on 30NOV2009.

Since I am initial term is it possible to get around the SSG thing? I figured not.

Well even the sun shines on a dog's ass occasionally.

Why can he not re-up if he is an initial term? I thought in-out calls and whatnot were exempt if you were initial term? (I'm not disagreeing I'm just curious)

He can reenlist for Option 3, Army Training Reenlistment Option as an initial term Soldier, BUT he must qualify for the MOS he's requesting. Unless 35M start accepting SGT(P)s again, SGTs or SGT(P)s do not qualify for the MOS.

Thanks AR.

Reenlisting for Fort Wainwright 1/25 ID, so I can get deployed again right away.

As soon as I make SSG and enter my reenlistment window I will try and see if I can get Option 3 for 35M. Hopefully it will work!

Thanks AR.
