I am an E-5 31B in currently in the National Guard. My initial enlistment was for 5 years on active duty, I ETS'ed and then later joined the National Guard. I know my MOS is a shortage MOS and so is 31E. I was told I can reclass into a different MOS in the same CMF regardless of the in/out calls. Is this true?

Also, would I even have to go to AIT? Aren't 31B & 31E the same AIT except 31E's have a couple more days of classes. I currently work for the Federal Bureau of Prisons, so I am already familiar with and trained by the federal government in corrections. Would this make a difference since I have civilian acquired skills?

I forgot to mention that I plan on reenlisting for active duty transitioning out of the National Guard, if that matters. Also, if I can not reclass to 31E, is their anything I can reclass too?

Or just answer the first one if you could... 1) Can a Mid-Career 31B (SGT NON-Promotable) Reclass to 31E according to exception # 1?? I believe exception # 1 states, "A soldier in this mos may reclass within the same CMF regardless of the in/out calls".

I'm not an expert in National Guard retention, that's why I didn't answer the first questions.

I am reenlisting ACTIVE DUTY not National Guard. I have already submitted my conditional release from the National Guard to go active. I started my career on active duty for 5 years on my initial enlistment. I ETS'ed then joined the national guard. I am a Mid Career E-5 non promotable 31B. On the last milper message next to 31B their was a "1" denoting an exception that stated that a soldier in this mos can reclass within the same CMF regardless of the in/out calls, but on the latest milper message I see no such exception. So can I reclass from 31B to 31E since they are in the same CMF? If I can't, are their any critical MOS's I can reclass to besides CMF 18 or 89D?....or am I stuck in my shortage MOS? If I am stuck as a 31B do I can still reenlist for station of choice and get a bonus since MP's or a critical or shortage MOS right? Thanks again for your replies!

I understand you are GOING active, but your are NOT active yet.

You are NOT reenlisting; you are considered a prior service ENLISTMENT. You will be seeing a active duty recruiter, right?

There are seperate rules for prior service enlistees and active duty reenlistees, which you are not.

As for bonuses, you'll need to look at the enlistment bonuses, NOT the reenlistment bonuses.

It's not considered reenlisting when you are prior service active duty, then joined the national guard and plan on switching? Yes I am seeing an active duty recruiter! So I take it you are not familiar with this different set of rules? Do you know of anyone who can answer my questions regarding reclass? Thanks..

No, it's called prior service enlistment or RC to AC transition.

There are a couple resident recruiters (former) on these boards and they should answer your question soon.

As far as reclassing goes, I would say that you do not stand a chance of that upon enlisting (reenlisting) in to the Army again. You are gonna have to try to reclass once your in again and completed at least 1 year at your duty station before applying for reclassification. It will not be guaranteed to work.
And no you will not receive a bonus. That's according to the latest milper on elistment incentives I just read.
At MEPS you may be able to pick a duty station from a very short list. Don't expect to see alot of places you can go.

Really no bonus? I didn't think I would be able to reclass because 31B is a shortage MOS, but I thought I would at least get a bounus because it is a critically short MOS! Could you give me a link to the milper message you read? Thanks..
