Until recently, I was in the SFQC. At the beginning of the pipeline I attended and successfully completed SOCM. I am currently an 11B but was wondering how I could obtain a secondary MOS of 68W so that I may do an MOS changeover.

As I'm sure you're well aware, SOCM is an ASI(W1) for 68W (and maybe 38B), and obviously a part of the 18D course. However, since you didn't finish the SFQC and hence, weren't awarded the 18D MOS, I don't know how anyone could award you an MOS out of an ASI producing school.

Do you have a certificate from the course awarding you the ASI or at least declaring that you completed it? You should look into the standards for award of the 68W MOS and possibly get into contact with the school house at Fort Sam Houston and ask.

Yes I have 1059, graduation certificate, pepp, acls, bls, nremt card. What bout a 4187 requesting a reclass with 68w school being waved? Would this be possible outside the USAJFKSWCS command?

It does not work that way. You need to talk to branch proponent and find out what can give you the MOS without formal training at Fort Sam.

I highly doubt you will receive the MOS designation based on what you posted but you are addressing your concerns to the wrong audience.

Erik, is spot on about contacting the school house.

It is like me asking for a direct commish as a Signal Officer (CPT) based on my experience as a Chief Warrant Officer, degrees, certifications and broad civilian experience. Not going to happen. I will still have to go through normal channels and training to receive it.

That's kinda what I was saying without expanding on it too much.

I'm sure there are rules for transferring an MOS from one branch to another, i.e. if a Sailor who is a Corpsman transfers to the Army later on, it's doubtful the Army would make them go to medic school again. The branch proponent probably has info as to what is acceptable training for award of the 68W MOS.

SOCM, from what I hear, is a pretty intensive course but it may or may not be acceptable to the Medical branch as to what's accepted. That's why I suggested contacting the school house.

Ok, so after going to the JSOMTC where I graduated SOCM I was able to obtain orders(actually took alot of hastle) awarding me S68W1PW1YY. My new question is how do I go about getting it put onto my ERB. I went to PSB at the SSC on FT BRAGG and they told me the only people who could put 68W onto an ERB is AMMEDD C&S at FT SAM HOUSTON....is this true?

So an update. Its seems that im the only soldier in the army who has The W1 identifier and is trying to reclass to 68w in the regular army. I contacted AMED and was told that HRC wont award 68w as a secondary mos unless your primary requires the same certifications (ie 18D, 38BW4) because they dont track the currency of nremt-b of secondary 68w's. I had to complete a full fledged reclass from 11b to 68w. It required a 4187 requesting reclass AND an educational review by AMED signed by your cmdr with a 4187-r with the batallion cmdr signature. You must also hold a current nremt-b and bls certification. This is wat AMED will be verifying. Since i graduated SOCM my residency training requirement was waived (after sending my SOCM graduation certificate and 1059) and a memo written verifying i was fully qualified to be reclassed to 68w. Next step is to take the 4187 and the memo to retention nco and he will send up request thru HRC channels and once they review and ok the request P68W orders will be published as well as the switch in your ERB. If you dont have SOCM or another branches equivalent of 68w AIT you will have to go to ft sam and complete the residency requirement which is paid by your unit. Hope this helps anyone that is in the same boat i was.
