I am a Spc and within my re-enlistment window. My problem is that I am trying to reclass from 68w to 11b. I understand that I am in an under-strength mos and that I have to play Uncle Sam's number games. My main issue is that I am trying to get in the 18x program and the ONLY way for me to do that is to reclass to 11b. So; I am trying to find out who I need to talk to and what I would need to get a waiver. (My Career Councilors are not able/willing to help me here.) I have learned that nothing is definite in the Army as long as you can find the right person to sign off on some paper work. Any help is appreciated.
Its not the only way to SF I know. The deal is I have been stationed with a Combat Support Hospital for 2 years (leading to a severe lack of experience.) and I am looking to use the 18x program (normally limited to initial entry soldiers.) for the additional training that I feel I need to get through selection. I have spoken with the 18x SF liaison, who informed me that only if I reclass 11b will he be able to get me into the program. I have also spoken to the SF recruiters on Benning who laid out the pipeline of training for me, but as I mentioned I do not feel that I have the basic skills to be successful.
You'll be offered Option 3, Army Training Reenlistment Option and you'll more than likely be offered 11B if a school seat is available ... there are currently no school seats available for reenlistment.
