Unfortunately you are a mid-career Soldier in a shortage MOS and you will not be offered Option 3, Army Training Reenlistment Option through Reenlistment.

The Note 3 you are referring to must correspond to the MOS you are looking to reclassify to.

52D has a Note 2, which reads "QUALIFIED AIRBORNE SLDRS IN THE RANK OF SSG AND BELOW OR THOSE DESIRING ABN TRNG TO FILL AN AIRBORNE POSITION MAY REQUEST TO RECLAS/REENL FOR IDENTIFIED MOS WITHOUT REGARD TO THE IN/OUT CALLS. SLDR MUST MEET TRNG/RECLAS CRITERIA AND THE REENL CRITERIA OF TABLE E-3, AR 601-280."

You do not meet the reenlistment criteria of Table E-3, (aka, Option 3) AR 601-280.

Mid-Career meaning you've already re-enlisted one time. Or is he wrong about that?

You are a mid-career Soldier because you've reenlisted at least once prior and have less than 10 years active service.

As soon as you go over 10 years, you will be a careerist and will lose movement options.

The only way I see you reclassifying is to go EOD or a shortage MI MOS.

You can also try reclassifying to recruiter or Career Counselor.

Question,
I know were beating this 97E to death but I still got questions.
My reenlistment NCO told me today that there is a 6 week wait to get a school date! Is this true? I know I have to extend for this under the bear program, My interim should be back next week. Does anyone know of the school dates out there? Will stop-loss affect me going to school or even getting a school date? Any help is welcome!

I am re-entering the ARMY after having been out for 15 years. Made great use of the civilian world and now wanting to start the next chapter in my life. Because of WTC requirements, I was only given two MOS options; 13F & 14E. In my prior serv days, I was 11B. I chose 14E. I wanted 37F, 97E/B or 11B. I also chose the 3 yr enlistment option so that I would have the option to reclass at that time.

1) Is this the standard way of attempting to get an eventual MOS if the initial way or "plan A" didn't work?

2) Is it reasonable to assume that there MIGHT be an opportunity to get a preferred MOS in the future?

My GT was 127.

Thanks for any help that you can provide!!!

michael, i'm sorry to say that 14E is a much needed MOS and promotions are fairly quick for E-5 and E-6.. But as far as getting out of the MOS later, good luck.. most of us 14 series are stuck like chuck dude.. hope you like computers

as far as getting into one of your perferred MOS's.. pray that when it's time to re-up that one of those jobs are in HIGH need, because I think the in/out call for 14E is Y/N almost across the board

BEAR Program is a higher priority than Stop Loss/Stop Move, meaning if your unit falls under Stop Loss/Stop Move, you are exempt.

You probably will not be offered Option 3, Army Training Option (depending on policy changes) because you will be a mid-career Soldier at the time.

You will however have a chance to reclassify (put in a reclass packet with a Career Counselor) if you want to reclass into a shortage military intelligence MOS (97E or 97B) regardless of your current MOS' strength.

Thanks for the intel.

I was told that the reason I was not offered either of 97B/E MOS choices was because I had to first go through WTC. 14E and 13F were the only mos choices that had WTC availability.

I am not dissing the 14 CMF I am just wanting something a little more highspeed!

I don't know how long it takes to get a class date now for 97E, but I got mine over a year out. I did the BEAR program in IRAQ around March of last year, and the school date thay gave me is this May. I returned in Oct, so even after I got back I still had a 6 month wait.
Hopefully you can get a sooner date than I did.

I don't think you have bene "Stop Lossed"; maybe an "O" code for your AEA. Check your ERB and tell me what your AEA code is.

"L" is the code I got this for my ASK PDL because my ERB is currently under maintenance. It maybe some kinda deal going on! Our original date for deployment was MAY but in DEC they pushed it back to July-Aug.
