I am interested in becoming a career counselor for my unit. What should I expect for career progression? I am currently an E-6 and wondering about the next levels as a 79S. I just left recruiting duty. I have an I idea but not too sure about it. I remeber recruiting school and I am wondering if CCC would be along the same lines? What are the assignment opportunities avaialable? Could I deploy? I know I am asking a lot, but just want to understand what I might be getting into. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
To be a great leader, you must be a good follower.
No I am not the BN career counselor. That's what I am asking about. I have not been through BNCOC and I have not complete any MRT. I plan on going to BNCOC this summer. I will have been in this position for 5 months. So I meet all the other requirements except for those two.
May be you should pay attention to the question I asked you before you tell me what to do. If you don't understand what I am asking, just say that, don't tell me to "drop the word 'Retention NCO'" I know you said nothing about BN Career Counselor. If you are going yell at me about attention to detail, you should look at the question I was asking. If you don't have an answer tell me that. I am sure you are a senior NCO. That was not a very professional way to handle my question.
I think you are asking how to put in your packet for 79S. You can find out if you already qualify for the MOS by looking at AR 601-280 the big brother to AR 601-210 . You might already qualify since you previously were a recruiter, but you still have to meet line scores. Check Appendix B of AR 601-280. I put in my packet, and was accepted to go to the course in May 08. The Moderator (Career Counselor) is right about the MOS. Its all about attention to detail, and always getting it right the first time. If you would like some help, as far as how you do the 4187 and recommendation letters then I would be happy to send you the examples that I have.

I understand I do not meet the qualifications right now. I have only held the company level Re-enlistment NCO for 5 months. I need one more month. I have not been to BNCOC. Waiting to go in May. I did not go after because I wanted to get back in a line unit to get some more leadership experience.
Now if I do go the 79S route what are promotions for E-7 and possibly E-8?
Is branch that assigns you to a duty station? Could I go to any unit in the Army to work battalion level?

Promotion to SFC is pretty decent; not as good as 79Rs through.

Yes, the 79S Assignment Manager controls the 79S assignments and you can be assigned to any battalion in the Army (if it's available). There are assignment priorities though.
I can tell you this luwigii. It's not as easy as just working as a company reenlistment NCO. It takes alot of hard work and long hours to become a Careeer Counselor. If you where in my Brigade you would have to be a Battalion level retetnion NCO atleast a year and have had to made you mission successfully.
You can't just wake up one day and say I want to be a Career Counselor. You have to prove yourself to your senior counselor that you have what it takes.
