I am awaiting approval for a reclass packet into 35L, which is short on NCO's. I am also in my re-enlistment window. Will I be able to re-enlist with the same options (CONUS station of choice for example) as if I was re-enlisting in my current MOS? Or am I going to be needs of the Army since the MOS is short handed? I don't have to re-enlist until I get done with the reclass school. At that point I have 90 days to retain the new MOS. Just to give a quick overview, I am an E-6 with 5 yrs in. I will be a 35L with 6 yrs in when executing my re-enlistment. Also this reclass is not under the BEAR it is under the current in/out calls message (milper message 08-176. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Wow, this is a very hard read ... let me try to break this down.

You cannot submit a voluntary reclassification while you are within your 24-month reenlistment window. Did you submit prior to this?

If your training is not converted BEAR Program, you will only be reenlisting for Option 1, Regular Army because you will be on assignment instructions. You will be reenlisting PRIOR to leaving for school. Also, you will not be receiving a bonus for this.

Yeah, kinda confusing I guess. Basically milper message 08-176 has a list of mos's that are waiving the in/out call staus to get in. For example 79r's, 89d's, 35l's, 38b. These mos's are by application only. I did not apply before my window, but was never told I couldn't submit my packet because of that. I was however told, that upon completion of the school, i will need to have 24 months of time remaing. I am assuming this will make me extend before i leave for school. When I return from the school I have 90 days to reup. If I reup, the 24 months will be forgiven pending re-enlistment.I was under the impression that after I get awarded the mos I would reup for the srb for that mos.
Hopefully my situation is a little less confusing now.

Ok, I figured out the issue here:

MILPER Message 08-176 is the In/Out Calls and deals with voluntary reclassification. You cannot submit a voluntary reclassification while you're in your 24-month reenlistment window.

The above is the BEAR Program which is accomplished while you are within your 24-month reenlistment window.

SOLDIERS MAY REQUEST ENTRY INTO THE BEAR
PROGRAM IN CMF 18, MOS 21D, 21P, 35L, 37F, 38B, AND 89D, REGARDLESS OF THE IN/OUT CALLS FOR
CURRENT PMOS.

With the BEAR Program, you'll extend your current enlistment two years past the AIT class graduation date. When you complete training and have been awarded the new MOS, you'll have 90 days to reenlist and be forgiven the 24 months of previously obligated service (the 24 months you originally extended for) to receive a nice bonus.

I hope this clears up some confusion.
