I'm not even sure how to start with this question except to say that my spouse was prior service, just reenlisted (reclassed), and will be going to AIT for 10 weeks. Do we have to wait until he graduates to get his next assignment or can they assign a home base in the meantime?
The situation is I am a teacher, and I have three kids in school. My job and their schooling depends greatly on where he is assigned, and if we must wait 10 weeks, we will not have orders until after the first of the school year.
When your husband gets his orders/assignments depends on many factors (MOS, Branch, needs of Army, etc..), so it's hard to give you a timeframe.
It's unlikely that he will get all the way to his last week of AIT without having an assignment, but you never know.
The best thing he can do is contact either his branch manager or the NCOIC of his school, explain the situation, and ask when he can expect assignment orders.
Good luck.

Click on his branch, and there should be a link somewhere with his branch manager's contact info. Depending on when his AIT starts, it might be too early for them to tell you anything, but it can't hurt.

When I went into the Army I was a prior service. When I got to AIT for reclass to 96B my family stayed at our house in Florida. I received my orders for assignment near the end of the course. So your spouse should get some orders near the end. They may allow your spouse a choice of selection depending on what the MOS is. Anyway, they Branch manager will cut orders and that will be that. He'll come home on leave and then go to the next duty station. You'll get some time to find a new home and stuff like that.

I have talked to the branch manager, who isn't able to do anything yet, because my husband isn't officially active duty until the 21st, but the guy told me to call him back and he'd see what he could work out. Praying for Campbell since I already accepted a teaching position there.
