I just re-enlisted to reclass to 98G. I go to school sometime after I re-deploy. Just wondering if any 98Gs can give me a heads up on what to expect as a reclass student at the DLI! I'd appreciate all the help I can get!

Be more specific as to what you are looking for and I can give you a heads-up.

It will depend what language you are there to learn which company you go to. If you are a SGT or SSG, expect to become a squad leader within the platoon, and also a section leader once your class starts. If you are going to live in the barracks, you will be in a separate building as IETers. Class will be pretty intense. There's lots of places to get away to on the weekends, let off some steam, Monterey is a super place and I wish I was back there :P

Thank you for the responses! More specifically, I am wondering how much freedom re-class has. I am an E4(P) but I am hoping to get my E5 by the time I go to school. You said IF I live in the barracks, do I have a choice? What kind of stuff do you suggest I bring? How are they about cell phones?
Lastly, my ATRRS says Spanish, but I scored a 100 on my DLAB. Am I really getting Spanish or can that change?

Spanish students will be in Delta Co. You'll have lots of freedom of movement once class is over. You could even take pass every wknd if you wanted to. But there's enough things to do without going very far away from Monterey anyways. When I was in D Co., we did PT in the mornings, class is from 0800-1530, so that gives you plenty of time after class to study, go off post and do whatever, etc., provided there isn't Army stuff scheduled for after the school day is over, which is about 70% of the time. You can have your cell phone on you at all times, just make sure it is off during class. Cell phones were actually our primary form of communication between squad members outside of class, since other than PT formation, you only have two accountability formations per week. If you're married you can get gov housing at the Ord Military Community, or live off post. The barracks rooms are relatively roomy, you have your own bathroom that you share w/ your roommate, so bring whatever you want.

They have been pumping people through spanish unfortunately, so probably yea. If you are single you will most likely stay in the barracks unless you are an E6.
