Forgive my ignorance here but I need some info on reclassing. I have two years in already (into a five year contract) and was PCS'd by the Army to a life-cycle unit after I came back from Iraq. I want to reclass out of the Infantry. I have a 129 GT score and a clean background, if any of that even matters. What I'd like to know is exactly when I can reclass. I have heard a few things, such as I cannot reclass until I have two years left on my contract (so a year from now). I also heard today that since I just got to a life-cycle unit that may effect that as well. Can anyone help me through the process so I know what to expect? Thank You.

I can't speak for the life cycle unit part but your re-enlistment window opens two years from your ETS unless you are deployed (no window then).

You cannot reenlist for Option 3, Army Training Reenlistment Option until you are within your 24-month reenlistment window. You can choose another MOS through this process.

Unless you are selecting EOD or a shortage military intelligence MOS (I'd recommend 35M ), your voluntary reclassification (this occurs outside of your reenlistment window) will probably be denied.

My reenlistment window opens up next year (2009) but my orders say my units life-cycle isnt up until 2011; so I guess my question is when exactly can I reenlist to reclass? Can they deny me Option 3 to reenlist to reclass if I want to next year? And if so when is the earliest I can reclass?

The earliest you can reenlist for Option 3 or extend under the BEAR program would be 12-months from your LCM unit end-date (2011).
