Who do you ask if you want your class date rescheduled and location for future assignment?

There are only 4-5 classes a year, so you might want to rethink it. You will probably have to have a really good reason to change it. The class should be scheduled through your career counselor, I'd talk to them. You should find out about your assignment prior to attending school.

How long does it take to get a response as far as acceptance or denial?

When I applied, it took me 3 days. The current goal however is 2-4 weeks. My only advice is to be patient. You will hear something back from it though, either positive or negative. I would suggest contacting your Career Counselor once every week or two.

I'm a Readiness/Training NCO for a newly-formed contingency contracting team (Army National Guard). One of my Soldiers has completed his Level 1 courses and has been awarded the 51C MOS, and he recently completed BNCOC Phase 1.

QUESTIONS: Does he have to complete anymore phases of BNCOC? Or since he's completed both the Level 1 training and BNCOC common core, is he good to go? And finally, if he is good to go, is there anything I can use as a reference to show my state he isn't required to attend anymore BNCOC courses?

Thank you!!! Smiler

51C thanks for all the good info you are providing. I have read several posts where other NCOs quote how much they love what they do in the 51C field. I read and hear it so much that I decided to make the change myself. I go to school in Lackland AFB early 2010.What specifically do you like about the MOS? What good and bad am I to expect?

Also, Do you know what type of contracting unit they have at FT Campbell? TDA or MTOE? I dont have a sponsor yet so any info you could provide would be great.

Also, on an earlier post you mentioned about the Bachelor and Master Degree programs. How does the program work? Do you get to do like the Nursing commissioning program where you go to school full time receiving full pay and allowances and then return to active duty upon completion of the degree? Thanks

All units are MTOE positions, hence the phrase that you understand you will be deployable. You can pretty much count on at least one year of non-deployability before heading out there. If you are headed to Ft. Campbell, specifically, send me a PM and I can get you in touch with some of the people who are up there and they can tell you what to expect.

You are lucky you are headed to Lackland AFB for training, most people don't get slotted there, it is by far the better of the two classes that you can get for training.

Yes, that is how they work. I believe both require at least 2 years contracting experience with a deployment to apply though. Check out ACS (Advanced Civil Schooling) program to get the specifics.

I have a question in regartds to 51c and the TIS requirments.

I was injured in the line of duty and as such have received a authorized re-class from a medical MMRB board. I already compiled a packet for 51c and have it in Limbo waiting for an acceptence letter from the proponent branch (includes my degree, 5 deployment history, erb etc... more than qualified for the MOS) but heres the rub...

I have read through, as has the Career counselor at my level and BDE abnd DIV, and found only a 60 MO retention requirment... I was told today that I have TOO MUCH TIS to take the job and will not receive a letter of acceptence.

My understanding is that there are a cpl ppl IN the school and job that HAVE more than 15 yrs but as in my case I am already INDEF and plan for more than the 20yr career as the 20 yr mark is at most times a misnomber anymore.

So I am able to meet the 60 mo requirment but have over 15 years of service but also more than qualify for entry?

Any opinions or recourses left to me? I just want a job that is both challenging, responsible and allows me to make an impact on the betterment of soldiers and the Army as whole and I feel that as my SFC rank does deny me entry into other MOS's this would be the best for me and the Army as my other options are less than challenging IMO.

Thanks for any help given

Proponent will be the deciding factor, but last I heard they were not accepting waivers for TIS over 13. Actual prerequisites are less than 10 year TIS. Of course they are Soldiers with more than 15 yeras currently as there are Soldier who have been doing this job for 10+ years. You might try contacting the branch manager and explaining your situation to see if a waiver might be granted.

Yeah proponent is saying absolutley not, but my only issue is that there is NO TIS requirments aside from having 60mo available (im INDEF atm) on the backend and that I have 100% and then some qualifications for the job tied with the critical req to fill positions...

kinda hate to think that Im missing out on a job I can really excell at for me and the Army but will be left to either med retire or count lost loncoln logs out of a dodds kindergarden school in europe...

There is a TIS requirement of not more than 10 years, waiverable to 13 years. You are getting TIS confused with the 60 month SRR (Service Remaining Requirement)

Sorry I was looking through the MOS specifically at the requirments and it just says the 60 months thing but makes no reference to any other requirment and believe you me when I say that me and a cpl career counselors have been scouring through the MOS thing to nausea.

I defintley appreciate the help as I have been following this forum for a few months since I saw what was coming and have tried to prepare for the inevitable.

I have one more question. How does this job float on the civilian side? Meaning I am also offered a Med Retirement and at my rank my offered choices are limited to say the least and as I prefer job satisfaction to just hanging out and collecting a check... mainly I really see this job as a place to make a competent impact on soldiers and the Army and am interested in it very much.

thanks
