My question I'm an SGT(P) and I'm 42A. There was a message that was sent out saying that if you don't have a security clearance by 1 OCT 2010 you will be reclassed. I know this is still far out but the question is if I can't get a security clearance and I don't want to be reclassed to the needs of the army what can I do? My reenlistment window won't be open at that time, so i can reenlist to change my MOS, second if i decided just to ETS that will still be about 25months from 1 OCT 2010. I'm on a 3year assignment in Europe now my family and household goods will arrive here in July 2010 so that stuff will get here and then they are just going to ship it to where ever I go, I not sure what to expect can someone give me some insight or advice. Thanks
Are you expecting that you won't get a security clearance? Because getting a secret clearance is a joke. You have to have some serious messed up stuff on your record to not get a clearance.
If you are forced to reclass they usually give you a list of MOSs to pick from that don't require a clearance. I would guess you would be sent TDY to the States to do the AIT for your new MOS and if it was one that they could keep you in Europe without having to pay for your PCS move they would.

If you required a moral waiver to gain access into the US Army or aren't a US Citizen) then you might worry about even a Secret clearance. Otherwise, what the Interrogator said was SO true. A secret clearance is a JOKE....it is almost automatic. Understand this fully...the Army is not the CIA, FBI or any other clandestine force (at least in the conventional army aspect). You just aren't that damn important for them to waste a ton time and resources on. Now, if you ever go for a TS/SCI that is a different story. They actually do their job. Don't let the glam factor of a secret scare you from even initiating one. Knock that crap out ASAP.
