Dear Sir or Ma'am, I just joined the Army National Guard at the age of 37. I'm slowly conditioning myself to run for the first time in my life on a regular basis using helpful hints and tips for beginning runners, however I am getting terrible pains in my shins. I'm assuming these are shin splints. It's getting worse. I'll even take a week break and ice my shins after each running but it still comes back. Will this evenentually go away? Is there anything I can do such as a certain exercise? Now I'm starting to have trouble running a 1/2 mile. It's affecting my monthly drills and I don't want it to hurt my ability to go into basic training in Nov 08. I KNOW I can do this and don't want my stupid shins to get in the way. Help! Regards, PV2 DarkRavenZ
