LOL! With a name like "SFSoldier23," shouldn't you already know about the "l33t" schools of the Army?

Strange. Though I suppose 19Ds are not approved for all those ASIs, they can still receive some of the training. I know of 19Ds that have been to Long Range Surveillance Leaders Course. Just like a 19D can go to Ranger school, but not be assigned to Ranger Bat. I have zero idea what the Lean Six Sigma is, but I bet 11B can get the training.

Really these things depend largely on what unit you go to. By and large though, 11B is the way to go if you want a wide variety of schools. 19D is the way to go if you want a wide variety of jobs.

I know in the units I've been in the training of a 10 level 19D gets is vast. I'm constantly astounded at how little 11Bs learn about their vehicles, commo, explosives, weapon systems and countless other things compared 19Ds. An entire infantry platoon with no-one, not even the 40 level trained, that know how to fill a radio with COMSEC, nobody but the driver having any clue how to turn on their Strykers, the 10 level 19D tasks with MDI, by the skill books, is the same as a 30 level 11B (I know they actually do teach their privates most the stuff we do however). Prior to deployment we got 5 11Bs straight out of OSUT in our platoon to get us up to strength and the amount of what a 19D considers basic tasks that we had to teach them was crazy.

However, a slot for airborne school in our brigade comes up, there is zero chance a 19D will get it. Getting a slot at ranger school is, well, 4 years, I know of 1 soldier that got it. There are far fewer % of slots for 19D in airborne or air assault units, and zero in ranger units. The army is Infantry, in the most basic sense, and by the numbers, so they are just taken care of better in this regard. If you want to be high speed, do all the high speed stuff, all the high speed training, 11B is the way to get. If you're in shape, and work to get the schools, 11B you have a shot. If you wanna be a soldier, and just do the soldier thing, I think 19D is the way to go.

In summation: 18 series is the way to go. Go to SFAS and see if its for you and screw all that normal army BS.

The 18 series is a recruiters dream. 18 year old kids who want to join up and be special forces right off without any training or military experience. Most wash out, fall out, get injured or quit and end up 11B. The few that do make it, congrats to you, but you still haven't experienced anything and don't know anything about the military system, so you're at a serious disadvantage.

I recommend you go the route that you feel passionately about, because if you feel passionately about 18x and you end up an 11B you're going to be frustrated for the next few years.

But as an 11b you can do the ranger school, and sfas selection whenever you put in a 4187 for it head off that way when you're trained up and ready.

i disagree with you KSoler i think that if a soldier heads out straight from basic to the 18 series world he might have an advantage due to the fact that his mind set is on training not on getting off work and drinking. It may be differant at the Regt. but ive seen to many soldiers who had high aspirations but units dont train for that kind of mission, doesnt mean the soldiers arent good or the leadership in the platoon is good, just means it takes more dedication on the personal side to get the training that is needed. Both routes have their perks though. Plus just like any infantrymen who has done something with their career the chances of some kind of injury will prevent you from becoming fully successful in attaining that MOS the further down the line you go. Good luck dude.
