Have you been to the Air Assault Course?

Yes, I have. Quite frankly though, It's not all it's made up to be. It's no where near the "toughest ten days in the Army" like it is said to be.
It is fun though. Well at least the obstacle course, and the rapelling phase (phase III).
You would be supprised at how many people fail out on day zero just because they can't climb the rope on the first obstacle course.
Well, no matter though. I hear they are bringing the Air Assault school here to Iraq with us (the 101st). Last time they deployed it was all classroom. So even if you can't ruck well, or you can't climb a rope, you can still wear those Air Assault wings.
Really makes you proud to wear them huh?

Here is another alternative to Ft Campbell’s Air Assault School.

ARNG, Warrior Training Center, Ft Benning

They run Air Assault Schools at various locations (some are at old posts or camps run by the NG). A well run school for being as mobile as they are.

Ok really? Air Assault School in Iraq Roll Eyes?! I graduated at the Sabalauski Air Assault School at Fort Campbell in 2000, and now I'm stationed with the 25th. The school at the 25th is a joke (minus the road march) compared to the one at the 101st. It really isn't what people crack it out to be, I actually had a good time in that school. If you can't climb a rope or road march then it's probably not fun for you, and you actually only CLIMB a rope once...

When I went to OIF 1 with the 101st they conducted Air Assault School in Iraq for a few months. It was a shortened 6 day course that wasn't as physical as the normal course (no 12 miler), so it was a good time to send people who couldn't do the regular school.

Anybody thinking about Air Assault school should go. Don't let it be a re-enlistment option though. It's so easy to get a class date. I went to Air Assault school at Fort Campbell in May 2006. It was fun and I learned a lot. They were talking about the mobile teams going to Korea and Iraq and other places. They need instructors to go out and travel to those places, other wise they can't go. They have to have at least 2 teams at Fort Campbell at all times to conduct training by the schedule, sometimes they have enough instuctors go to other post and train. You should have a plenty of upperbody strength or your won't make it, you'll be going home with a drop slip. Like others on here said be able to climb a rope, ruck 12 miles in 3 hours (25-40 lbs ruck), and pay attention to detail. Don't you guys miss those FIVES AND DIMES??

I'd like to start off by saying I haven't been to Air Assault School... yet. However, I just want to touch on the "climbing the rope" part. What hasn't been mentioned is on Day zero you get smoked up for a while then immediately following the smoke session have to climb the rope, at least thats what I've been told by two air assault guys in my unit. Just want to point out that your arms aren't fresh when you're supposed to climb that rope.

That's not true, we only did 10 push-ups prior to the O course. They don't smoke you prior unless you are talking or not standing at Parade Rest.
