I seem to recall there was some discussion/policy about "Free" leave for soldiers who had been deployed a certain amount of time, for certain reasons...
To be honest, I don't remember the details. I was so busy gearing up for my current deployment I didn't pay attention.
My questions are: Does anyone know what I'm talking about? Am I, indeed, crazy? If I'm not, can anyone break this down to me in simple terms?
I'm just curious, I've got plenty of time now to sit and think of this stuff.

There were/are agreements that if you extend to stay in-country you can have a choice of incentives, such as "free leave". But I think that only applies to MPs in places such as Gitmo.
Actually it is called PDMRA Leave (Post-Deployment/Mobilization Respite Absence). It is free Leave that the soldier accrues while deployed. It is not tracked on your LES. Here is a like to a article on it. PDMRA Leave

And as stated previously it's not free. We should all know by now that nothing is free in the Army.
You earn one day of PDMRA leave for every month past 12 that you are deployed within a 36 month period. For every month after 18 that you are deployed within a 36 month period you earn two days of PDMRA. And for every month past 24 months that you are deployed within a 36 month period you get four days of PDMRA per month.
Upon returning from my last deployment I knew a few Soldiers who really benefited from this program. Pretty much their whole 30-day block leave period was covered by PDMRA leave they had earned. Before coming to the unit these Soldiers had just returned from another deployment and some even had another deployment before that. Those guys really cashed in. None of their actual regular accrued leave was even touched.
