I am a 31B and I am being deployed to Iraq. I am a little worried about my weight and passing my Physical Fitness Test. I am hoping that it will not prevent me from deploying. If I don't pass my weight and PFT will I beable to get a waiver and retest? Or will I be sent back home? Will they consider me? I have no health problems at all. Besides being over weight. I have been doing my own PT and have been losing weight. Any help will be appreciated. If I am going to have issues how can I fight them?
I believe people getting called up from IRR aren't being disqualified due to weight and APFT. A friend of mine (who had a clearance on active duty) got off active duty and spent the next six months smoking dope, and gained a lot of weight.
He got called back up from IRR, they said, too bad, you're still going back to Iraq. The clearance is gone, but you can sure as hell work in the Orderly room...
heh

Do you know how long I will have once there to lose the weight and pass the APFT? I am wanting to reenlist while there. By the way thank you for your response.
If you don't pass it, you'll be flagged. If you are flagged, it will take action on the part of your commander to lift the bar to reenlist or to allow you to extend.
If there are medical circumstances preventing you from passing the APFT, then you'd need to consult AR 40-501 regarding what your options are, whether or not you'd have to go through a MEB or a MMRB.
I don't know for sure how long IRR is called up for, but expect at most 2 years. I would expect that once you pass the APFT, the flag would be lifted and you'd be able to talk with your career counselor about drawing up a new active duty contract.
I'm going to caveat this by saying I'm not a career counselor, so I don't particularly know the regulations pertaining to this, my responses are just from personal observations and past experiences.

You should be good to go on the deployment, but I can't say 100%.
You have 90 days to pass the APFT, really shouldn't be a problem if you work at it.
Weight control is something I'm not really familiar with (other than what it means for retention). If you're making the required progress per AR 600-9, you can be retained. Extensions are authorized for those making satisfactory progress for up to 12 months.
You'll have to pass the APFT and meet HT/WT standards to reup. Make sure your unit removes any flags done as a result of this once resolved.
Are you planning to reenlist for the IRR, or do you want to go back to a more active status? (RA, TPU, IMA etc.)
Regulations are still regulations, but I know with regard to IRR, some of them are being blatantly ignored.
Had a guy on my first deployment who was Somoan. Really big guy. Went to basic, went to AIT, someone pincil-whipped his weigh in.
Showed up to his first duty assignment and was chaptered 3 months later for weight control.
6 months later, after his weight hadn't fluctuated and he was still technically out of regulation, the Army called him back up to go do the job he signed up for originally at a deployed location. Suddenly, the Army didn't seem to care about his weight.

I am actually planning to go from IRR to active duty if I can get something in Las Vegas, if not I will go to the MP reserve unit till I can go active. I know I can lose the weight I just have baby fat from having twins and getting lazy after I already lost 40 lbs in 3 months I just have to lose about 40 more. I will pass my APFT it will take everything in me but I will pass it. I will also lose the rest of my weight. I know that for sure because I want to reenlist.
