My husband is trying to set up an Internet service in his room and was told that he doesn't have a "pple shortcut", thus he can't do it and has to "reset his laptop"??
Does anyone know what this "pple" is? He has a brand new laptop w/ Vista as his operating system. Thank you!!

Are you sure it's "PPLE shortcut"?? I have not heard of PPLE, but have worked in the IT field a while now. When is it saying this? Is it when he clicks something, when he tries to open a page, etc?
Without knowing more details, I would suggest resetting the router/switch if you are using one, as well as restarting the laptop.
What kind of internet service is he setting up? Cable, DSL, Dial-up?
I have never heard of such a thing either. I am not quite sure what he is setting up (for sure it's not a dial-up), but it's the service that the contractors offer in Iraq and they were the ones who said he needed that "pple shortcut" in order to make it work. And they also talked to him about resetting his system, wich makes no sense. I wonder if Vista is just not compatible...I don't know..
I will try to get more details when he calls back.

I would definitely try to clarify. I did my homework just to be sure I wasn't missing something, and have yet to find anything about a PPLE anything. The ones I know of are PPP, PPOE (which it wouldn't be), L2TP, and PPTP.
His best avenue of approach would probably be getting the contractors providing the net to help, however..it's extremely difficult to troubleshoot something like that over long distance, let alone with someone having to relay the messages, you know.
It is hard trying to figure something out like that...and it doesn't seem that the contractors know a lot either.
I spoke to him earlier, it is the PPOE. When they were trying to start his Internet, the PPOE is suppose to come up and it does not. Therefore, they mentioned that since it is not comming up automatically upon the start up, he should have a shortcut somewhere...no one has found one.

I mistyped it, it's PPPOE, Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet. Basically, it provides the ability to make sure those that need access get it, and those that don't..well, don't.
That being said, if they're using PPPOE, then they need to provide your husband with a login..so hopefully they did. If that's the case, have him do this.
Start Menu > Control Panel > Network & Sharing Center..."Set up a connection or network". Here you select "Connect to the internet" and hit next.
Choose "Broadband (PPPoE), enter his login stuff, and hit Connect..he should be up and running then.
