I was wondering if anyone has bought a helmet camera for use overseas. Im lookin to get something so I can record room-clearing and such when I go back over. Im lookin for something rugged, with easily replaceable batteries, and good low light operation. I was hopin for something under $250 but whatever works. Thanks for any info you guys can suggest.

I googled "helmet camera military" and got a million results (small exaggeration)

That's just one of them.
I have not bought one, nor have I met anyone who has used one. A great idea though!

I wouldn't waste my money, chances are your chain of command will not let you use it...and probably give you a good ass chewing Mad

Ive done the google thing and found a few, but i wanted to know if anyone had any in country experience with any of them. Too many times you get great equipment which works nicely in the barracks but as soon as you throw war at it, it breaks in a week. Thanks for the page though, that was one i hadnt found.

We had cameras last time we went. I just never used mine because it required a hand, and since i was the first guy in most of the time i kinda figured my weapon was a little more important to the mission than a nice camera shot:-P

Actually, this brings up a good point... if these videos were made, it would show light to our TTPs to unwelcomed "guests". Just a thought.

Don't waste your money, as others said you won't get to use it. Usually the ones with cameras are PAO

Helmet mounted cameras would put me out of business.

Seriously though, I know SF uses 25Vs (combat camera) in their stacks to cover room clearing to show the bad guys were shooting first.

From my experiences I wouldn't recommend them for the following two reasons:

1) 90% of your missions are going to be boring where nothing happens anyways so you're carrying around this extra piece of equipment you've probably spent upwards of $600 on and if it breaks you're the only one responsible to pay for it. Plus it's rather a pain to put on and set up.

2) On the 10% of time when things do go wrong or right depending on how you look at it, your video just become OPSEC and violations could harm your career. It's a cool idea, but when it comes down to it, more of a hassle.

Check out the VIO P.O.V.1 camera. It is pricey, but it is nice. Go to helmetcameracentral.com to look at it. I believe they have a pretty lengthy and detailed review of it and several other helmet cams.

And on the sixth day, God created the Field Artillery...
