I'm looking to re-enlist to the National Guard or reserve, but I’m not entirely sure the difference. I might also consider working in the guard or reserve full time. Any one have input? Looking for stabilization and/or a good bonus. My re-enlistment NCO has yet to talk to me, though I have been trying to track her down. My MOS is 25U Thanks

Heya,

Come on over. We got fat bonuses. 10k for 6 years and 5k for 3 years (after taxes).

NG soldiers work for their state and have more combat arms jobs. Infantry artillery and tankers and the like. Since you work for the state, you can also be called up to respond to state emergencies, so take that into account. NG usually have better education benefits provided through the state, like 100% tuition remission. Makes your GI bill go further. Oh, and go here if you want to fly helicopters one day. they have most of them.

Reserve soldiers work for the feds. We have tons and tons of engineer assets and some ridiculous portion of the civil affairs corp is reserve. We have mostly support and combat service support MOSes, so a lot of paper work and mp and engineer stuff. also a lot of medical stuff. drill sergeant units are also reservist.

Depending on what area you are in, you may have to reclass. for example, Illinois and Wisconsin only have 3 MP units between the two, and they're clumped together. If you come off active duty, you are supposed to get 2 years of stabilization. also, we are (in theory) on a schedule which has every soldier deploying ever 5 years.

Combat Engineer. It's the 1 2 b.
