Hey there, I was just wondering if anyone has gone to Ft.Knox for BCT or is going in June?? I am heading off June 19th in 37 days. I just want to know what BCT there is like? I have heard that it is pretty hard. I was going to Ft. Leonard Wood but I signed for 88m and they are sending me to Knox now. How is the climate in the summer? Is it like really hot and humid or not to bad? I live in Maine so I am use to the cold weather and hate the hot weather. Thanks for the help!

I was in your exact situation back in 2004. I'm from Maine, shipped out for 19D OSUT at Knox from July-October. The summer months are very humid, I just remember sweating so bad it was dripping off the brim of my patrol cap. Show up physically fit and drink water and you'll be fine.

Strength does not come from physical capacity. It comes from an indomitable will...

I went to Knox back in 2000 in July and August. The way they conduct BCT has changed since then, but like Hunter5 said, drink lots of water and be prepared to sweat a lot.

I finished basic at Knox a little over a year ago. Be glad you're going there. It'll be something to be proud of when you talk to people who came from "Relaxin Jackson" or Fort "Lost in the woods."

And yes, it will be hot and humid.

Seriously though, it really just depends on the drill sergeants/cadre that you get. All of my drill sergeants were veteran drill sergeants, so they didn't feel the need to prove themselves as drill sergeants. The company next door though...I think they were pretty much all new drill sergeants. They constantly had their soldiers in "the pit" (a dirt/sand pit...or mud pit when it rains...which it does a lot in Kentucky).

But basic training will be what you make it. I had guys in my platoon that were miserable, and really, it wasn't that bad. And expect to hear things from the Drill Sergeants like, "Well when you guys get your phone calls tonight..." And then of course, no phone calls. Don't let stuff like that get to you, just expect it.

When you first get there, you'll go through 3-7 days of in processing. For me, that was the worst week of basic training. You're getting yelled at for a week while you're doing absolutely nothing. Once you get through in processing and actually move out to your unit, the time goes by pretty quickly.

Oh, and one more thing, Fort Knox has a LOT of hills. Heartbreak and Misery are the best. Have fun...
