Everyone that puts pride in their uniform and has earned the right to say "I am a soldier" have a high standard...or should; tell me what your pet peeves are that you see in the army...here are mine
1. I hate when your flying home and you see the basic training recruits all together, and you hear them talking like they are a battle hardened soldier already, and dont let them know your in because they will tell YOU how the army is, geez that burns my biscuits lol
2. I hate to see it when some body is walking down the street in ACU's and they are talking on a cell phone or smoking a ciggarette, if i outrank them i blow up on their a$$ if i dont i just let them know.
3. The Beret it is not a chefs hat! wear that thing with some pride form it to where it looks so crisp against the side of your head, come on people do this for your self pride geez
4.And here is another one seeing people wear there ID tags outside there shirt in civilian clothes...Its like that running cadence "Dont let your dog tags dangle in the dirt..." but in there case i just wanna say "i can see your dog tags dangling outside your shirt, i ought to punch you in the gut then make you eat some dirt" Gosh that pisses me off lol!
That stuff burns my biscuits, what burns yours?
Yay the holidays!

1.Yes I agree with you. The smoking or talking on the phone is really irritating ESPECIALLY if they are NCO's. 2. Soldiers riding profiles is another. 3.Soldiers with their hands in their pockets. 4. 4.The beret period 5.Using a cell phone while driving-civilians or military on post 6.24 hr BN Staff Duty 7. Soldiers coming from AIT on profiles 8. Female Soldiers coming up pregnant prior to deployment

my biggest number 1 pet peeve is soldiers (and NCOs and Officers) wearing their uniform when it is not authorized. For instance, last weekend my wife and i were meeting a buddy and his wife at a mall 30 minutes from post, he calls and asks if i'd mind another couple joining us...i say no problem...they show up and the soldier (other couple) was in fricken uniform!!! i asked the soldier "are you on your way to work?" no he says "are you running a quick errand?" no he says "then why the hell are you still in uniform with no beret walking, talking on your cell phone and smoking a cigarette?!!!?!?!?!?" when we returned to post we met at the BN and he tried to dig a hole to china in the sand pit...he almost made it...
I am a soldier, I fight where I'm told, and win where I fight.

1. The beret in general 2. ACU's 3. The new dress uniform 4. People telling me how put my gear together 5. unit PT. It's a waste of time. 6. Soldiers wearing their uniform off duty Every time I go to the Tacoma mall there's half a dozen soldiers in uniform, all E-4 and below walking around at 1900. 7. End of the day formations 8. Soldiers with appointments all the time, or ones that can't be trusted to act like the adults they and stay out of trouble and do the right thing.

5. THE ACU WEAR POLICY. 5A. THE NEW ACU IS USED AS A COMBAT UNIFORM DESIGNED TO BE WORN UNDER BODY ARMOR. THE UNIFORM IS PRESCRIBED FOR YEAR-ROUND WEAR FOR ALL SOLDIERS, UNLESS OTHERWISE DIRECTED BY THE COMMANDER. SOLDIERS MAY WEAR THE ACU OFF POST UNLESS PROHIBITED BY THE COMMANDER. THE ACU WILL NOT BE WORN FOR COMMERCIAL TRAVEL UNLESS AUTHORIZED BY AR 670-1, PARAGRAPH 1-10C. THE ONLY EXCEPTION TO POLICY IS FOR SOLDIERS PARTICIPATING IN THE REST AND RECOUPERATION PROGRAM. ANY OTHER EXCEPTION TO POLICY MUST BE SUBMITTED TO THE DEPUTY CHIEF OF STAFF, G-1 FOR APPROVAL. PERSONNEL WILL NOT WEAR THE ACU IN OFF-POST ESTABLISHMENTS THAT PRIMARILY SELL ALCOHOL. IF THE OFF-POST ESTABLISHMENT SELLS ALCOHOL AND FOOD, SOLDIERS MAY NOT WEAR THE ACU IF THEIR ACTIVITIES IN THE ESTABLISHMENT CENTER ON DRINKING ALCOHOL. THE ACU IS NOT NORMALLY CONSIDERED APPROPRIATE FOR SOCIAL OR OFFICIAL FUNCTIONS OFF THE INSTALLATION, SUCH AS MEMORIAL SERVICES, FUNERALS, WEDDINGS, INAUGURALS, PATRIOTIC CEREMONIES, ETC. THE ACU IS ISSUED AS A COMBAT UNIFORM AND IS NOT INTENDED FOR WEAR AS AN ALL-PURPOSE UNIFORM WHEN OTHER UNIFORMS (CLASS A OR B, DRESS, AND MESS UNIFORM) ARE MORE APPROPRIATE. THE COMMANDER MAY PRESCRIBE ORGANIZATIONAL AND INDIVIDUAL EQUIPMENT ITEMS IAW CTA 50-900 WHEN THE ACU IS PRESCRIBED FOR PARADES, REVIEWS AND CEREMONIES. THE COMMANDER MAY AUTHORIZE THE WEAR OF SUBDUED PIN ON COMBAT, SPECIAL SKILL, AND IDENTIFICATION BADGES IN GARRISON. COMBAT AND SPECIAL SKILL BADGES WILL NOT BE SEWN OR ATTACHED USING HOOK AND LOOP PADS ON THE ACU. SEWING OF THE RANK INSIGNIA ON THE ACU PATROL CAP, ACU SUN HAT, AND KEVLAR CAMOUFLAGE COVER IS AUTHORIZED. THE ACU WILL BE LOOSE FITTING AND COMFORTABLE; ALTERATIONS TO MAKE THEM FIT TIGHTLY ARE NOT AUTHORIZED. THE ONLY ALTERATIONS AUTHORIZED ARE THOSE LISTED IN AR 700-84. ITEMS SHOULD BE FITTED LOOSELY ENOUGH TO ALLOW FOR SOME SHRINKAGE WITHOUT RENDERING THE GARMENT UNUSABLE.
So unless soldiers are not in accordance with this then they are not wrong for wearing their uniform off post. So jgarner if he wants to wear his uniform to the mall then he can. Now the no beret issue thats different. But I think you need to brush up on your regs before you smoke a soldier!
KingsGambit Mentioned 24 hr staff duty. I definitley have to agree with that one. That is probably one of the biggest Mixed messages Ive ever gotten from the Army. Every Friday we get harped on about the dagers of Driving while intoxicated, but studies show that driving while sleep deprived is just as bad! Every single time Ive had staff duty, Im always barely staying awake on the drive home, with the radio Blasting and the Coldest A/C Blowing in my face. But on the other hand, if they were to shorten the shift to 12 hours (for example) then you probably wouldnt get the next day off. So what can you do?

While the ACU may be authorized off post, and the mall is not listed above, it still looks bad and is not in line with the intent of the uniform or the regulation.

The point is that the commander determines if it looks bad and is authorized, not you as the NCO. So to discipline a soldier for doing what is ok in the regs is the wrong answer. The reg is cut and dry, there is no being in line or with the intent of the reg!

according to the fort leavenworth and CAC welcome packet the ACU/BDU and IPFU are not to be worn off post with the following exceptions: -Running quick errands -Consuming the morning or evening meals
I am a soldier, I fight where I'm told, and win where I fight.

1. Beating that horse even after it's been dead(with whatever issue). 2. Side bar conversations during a presentation. 3. Insulting peoples intelligence. 4. Leaders with the do as I say not as I do mentality (too many cases of that in Army). 5. Pete Rose not being inducted into Hall of Fame (he's served his time).
When AER denys a soldier the $1,000 that the commander has the authority to give them because AER doesnt see a need for that person to have it. Here is the story:
A coworker of mine pcsed from korea to here, was getting the wrong bah in korea(like 100 to 200 more a month). He reported it, they didnt fix it. He gets here, they wanted the money back. Finance told him that they were going to take the money out of his next 2 paychecks. He had the Command go with him to finance to stop that, and instead take out a certain amount every month as he has a family to take care of. They told him that he was good to go, and that they would take out the set amount, but instead took his whole paycheck. Now onto AER, the Commander approved the $1,000, all he had to do was to go to AER. AER wanted to see all of his bills, and determined that he didnt need the money. Imagine that, practically our whole unit refused to give to AER after that. He was living off of credit cards for 1 month.
Oh, and I guess finance for messing up, but hey it happens.

Soldier was talking about a concert all week. On thursday night, the night of the concert, Soldier goes to the concert. The next day at PT formation, the Soldier goes to sick call and gets 48 hour quarters... Indigestion!! Now I wonder where that came from? On top of that, the Staff Duty did a quarters check over the weekend at the barracks of the Soldier. The Soldier wasn't there. The Soldier went out to the club!!! I was heated after I heard that.
This is what I have from the Ft. Leavenworth welcome packet:
The battle dress uniform (BDU) and the Army combat uniform (ACU) are field, utility, training, and combat uniforms. BDUs and ACUs are not an all-purpose uniform, so Soldiers should normally wear the Class A or B green service uniform off post.
Soldiers may not wear the BDU or ACU off post while:
• In any bar, club, or any establishment whose primary purpose is to serve or sell alcoholic beverages. • While consuming alcoholic beverages off-post.
So I guess at this point it will be agree to disagree because I can see this going on forever. In my opinion seeing a soldier in uniform in the community makes me proud as long as they are not acting a fool!
Most hated thing in the world: Overbearing soldiers who think they're god because of their rank..or some other reason..who knows.
Example: I was at an airport recently, in civilian clothes, and a SFC was standing off to the side, mean mugging EVERY civilian that walked by him...looking them up and down as if inspecting a private.
Pisses me off. That kind of harsh attitude does nothing but bring a negative image upon all of us who wear the uniform. I don't expect professionalism to go out the window, but at the same time, smiling, or at the very least not looking like a d***, is not a crime.
And from what it sounds like..there may be one or two of these people here, judging by some of the things that bother some people.
Don't even get me started on this wearing uniform off post issue. Lighten up.
