First question what MOS are you going for? I'm mostly just curious as the same advice applies to most...
1. Get in shape, I know you said besides this, but its important, most everyone I saw fail out or get injuried was because they were not in shape! Quit smoking now too, since its cold turkey from day one at basic.
2. Make a habit out of writing your loved ones. Mail takes a little while to catch up to you, but once it does its a great feeling knowing someone is pulling for you. Plus you get very few chances to call home.
3. Don't freak yourself out in advance, its not as bad as you think it will be. I hated the first few days/weeks. I kept asking myself "why did I leave a good job and a loving family for this!?!" By the end I was having a blast.

So this doesn't get too long feel free to private message me with any specific questions. I didn't go to Knox but I can still give you some basic army advice.

I remember the first day, we had a guy crying, saying he wanted to go home. DONT BE THAT GUY. Do pushups, situps and jogging before you leave. Don't kill yourself on the run, employ a nice steady pace for 3-4 miles every other day. They will get you in shape before you graduate, trust me. Be humble. Do the right thing. Think positive. Don't let the Drill SGTs get in your head. They have a job to do so let them do it and don't talk back. I honesly believe Basic Training was fun.

Thanks for the help guys. Do they start you with 3-4 mile runs right away or do they build up to it? I think the best thing I need to do right now is work out and try not to dwell on going to basic in two weeks, I'm start'n to over think it a bit.

Is the weather really hot from Aug. to Oct. I've had a couple other people tell me it will rain a lot while I'm there.
