I'm currently in the process of joining the Army. And my hair is rather long. I was wondering, once i get to basic if they will cut it off, or if im just allowed to keep it in a bun? I've heard different stories and my recruiter sucks, he never has answers for me. So i figured i would try one of you all. Another question.. I really want to get stationed in California for my first duty station. Does anyone know if there is an army base near Edwards airforce base in cali? Thanks in advance guys

As far as your hair is concerned, as long as you can keep in a nice tight bun there is no problem with you not cutting, as a female they won't force you to do that.
I don't know about the base stuff though. What MOS are looking into?

As long as you keep your hair within AR 670-1(army reg on uniform and appearance) standards then your fine. I have known females that when they they let thier hair down it would go almost to thier knees. As far as getting stationed in Cali, good luck since they dont gaurantee duty station of choice anymore, I would say not a good chance at all.
Yeah, like everyone else said, they won't make you cut your hair. I would recommend though having it just long enough to easily put in a bun. If your hair is on the thick side, and it's really long, it can be a pain the butt if the bun is too big. (Fitting under your helmet, constantly fixing it etc). My hair is kinda thin so the easiest thing for me was to pull it back in a low pony tail, then braid the pony tail and wrap it around. That helps to keep the straggly hairs in check and makes it more secure. Make sure you have hair ties that match your hair color too.

Actually, they still offer Guaranteed Duty station, its just not as popular anymore, since people go for the bonuses instead.

This may seem crude but think of your recruiter like a car salesmen. He gets credit if you sign, so why 'choose' a recruiter who is not going to answer your questions and phone calls?
Find someone you like and give them your 'business'. Remember this is the next eight years of your life... you wouldn't buy a car from someone who didn't answer your questions, right?

Actually, no dont think of your recruiter as a salesman, think of him as an NCO, just like NCOs that are in the mainstream army you have good ones and bad ones...not saying he is bad, or good. So, like I said if you have an NCO in the mainstream army who does not care about troops, well more than likely he will not care about future Soldiers while in Recruiting....
Recruiters are not sales men.

TransAM95NCO,
I will hook you up with the latest info so you dont tell future applicants that. Current USAREC Enlistment Incentive message(08-178) dated 2008SEPT02 mention nothing of Guaranteed Duty station. IT IS NOT AN OPTION as of right now and hasnt been since before I got out here. Will they bring it back, who knows but as of right now you cannot get it. And if you have someone giving you this info ask them what USAREC message it is and post it for me so I can be educated just incase for some reason myself and all of my company are wrong, and ya never know maybe I am wrong..=)

+1
Find someone who will work to keep you informed/ happy. If your recruiter is slacking off let them go try to recruit someone else.
