I'm not in the military. I only want to learn how to protect my family and friends. I live in the Olympia, WA area. I'm primarily concerned with learning how to disarm someone who is weilding a knife or gun. Also, I would like to learn how to perform offensive attacks while weilding a knife myself. I'm not a nutcase and this is not a troll topic. I'm absolutely serious about this. I just know that the US military offers the best training on these subjects, and I'm too old to join the military. I just figure some of you might know of some training outside of the military that is available for civilians. I can't find anything but dojos on the interenet.

Thanks and Regards,

Vukojaniik.

Get with your local law enforcement for a list of self-defense classes...you're not going to learn anything by reading a "Hot to" in this community.

It really does seem like a troll topic hahaha.

Just to let you know, knife fighting is unconventional. If you really want to learn how the military fights, whether it be special forces, rangers, all of them actually, you want to learn Brazilian Ju-Jitsu. Disarming someone with a knife, eh, just not smart unless you can't run. I mean, you may think that running is for wimps but there is no sense in risking your life because of an image. So yeah, read up on Brazilian Ju-Jitsu, watch UFC or something to get an idea.

If you really want protection, be smart, if you are 21 [it's 21 in NC] get yourself a concealed pistols license. I don't want to give suggestions to someone who is trying to learn how to hurt someone innocent so I better stop haha.

In my few years in the Army the only technique they ever taught me concerning how to "disarm" someone, is to shoot them...works everytime. However, I will say if you are attacked by a knife or gun weilding assailant, RUN, RUN, RUN!!!!! If you try to disarm them you will likely be stabbed, or shot, both of which are excruciatingly painful, not mention can kill you.

I do not recommend that you watch MMA or UFC on tv, and then think you can defend yourself. My suggestion is to go somewhere, and learn a martial art. Krav Maga is a good art to learn if it is taught where you are at. It combines offensive with defensive techniques. This was developed and taught by the Israeli military, and still is today.

I actually was saying to get an idea, like, to see what type of fighting it is, and if he is interested. Most effective for self-defense if you ask me, unless you get more than one on you, then you just run like Sgt. T said.
