I know I sound like a sniveling little girl. But are you serious that we can't wear our own underwear? Confused Eeker That's all I'm really only worried about. I know the ridiculousness of it and I know that the skivvies they issue us will be clean. I just want my own undies.

no. 11B is infantry, thus, the poster is a guy. females can wear their own underwear but I'd recommend not thongs or sexy type undies (you go to BCT to learn to kill not pick up a boyfriend).

Most BCT's require white "granny" style panties as display items in your wall locker. Any other type of undies will be stored in your personal drawer. DS's can and most likely will inspect personal drawers as well during wall locker inspections and if you have over the top panties you will be ridiculed. It makes for funny stories to tell but it's really not necessary to have sexy underwear in basic. Bring something you will be comfortable doing a lot of physical activity in.

Speaking as a DS you will only wear the granny panties! I go through all my females mail even because they think they are smart enough to get clothes in the mail that they are not able to wear. .

Enjoy your time in Basic Training, where are you going to basic at?

The average Shepard can run 35mph, can you??

Nice. I've supplied myself with one new pack of white skivvies. I'll buy more when I'm there and the list of mandatory items is handed to me by my DS.

I signed my contract and chose the MOS 31B, so I'm OSUT at Ft. Leonard Wood shipping April 7.

I'm trying to find scentless soap, will Ivory plain be fine? Any recommendations? I'm not worried about shampoo, because I figure if we have 2 minutes to eat, we have close to the same time to shower. Also, I got child's toothpaste knowing I won't be tasting anything, well, tasty for a while. Will I be ridiculed for that? Anything about Goldbond medicated powder? I was told moleskin could save my feet, should I wait until I'm there before I get it or should I pick some up now?

Thanks for all the awesome help and answers!

Thanks 11BIN Smiler!
I'm just really nervous about everything and eager to get to this, packing a few things and getting myself 'squared' makes this whole process a little easier. I'm sure some can relate to me!

I appreciate all the amazing answers and look forward to asking more questions.

Hey ladies! I'm leaving for basic on April 7th to Fort Jackson, very scared bc I'm leaving my one year old daughter for 2 months..but its worth it to know she'll be taken care of for the next 4 (or more) years.
SO here's a list I've compiled for when I leave, I should put in here that my recruiter sucked horribly, so I have NO IDEA what to expect, although that might be the best way to go in, so I don't show up and my expectations are completely wrong..but anyways, here's my list:
Pack of white (bikini cut, no grannys for me) undies
2 pair white sports bras
1 regular bra (not white, its gray/with a lil pink, im a bit chas strapped so I can really buy another one)
white ankle cut socks (do we need higher cut ones)
hair brush
pony tails
bobby pins
toothbrush
(umm..are contacts allowed? might be a stupid question but even my recruiter didnt have a 100% answer)
tampons
excedrin
chapstick
dental floss
black watch
combination lock (dont wanna hassle with keys)
pics
envelopes and paper
black pen
blakc sharpy
...and it might be late but i cant think of anything else

could anyone tell me what i might be forgetting, what could be useful to already have prepared. i was told i could only bring the army backpack i got at MEPS, and everything should fit in it. not too sure what im gonna wear there, probably just jeans, a tee, and i havent decided on the shoes. its a choice between my nike air max 360's (for comfort, but they might be a hassle down the road) or some regular flats (for less stress)..
also, my hair has LOTS of strays going all over the place, i used to play soccer, and i would wear the athletic wrapping tape in the my hair (not the sticky kind, the soft stuff they put on before the sticky tape), but i was told this wasn't allowed...is this true? if so i suppose ill go with gel..also, i already basically have callouses on my feet from playing soccer all my life (and coming from the tx country), so should i worry about blisters? they might be an inevitability, but like i said before, im too broke right now to buy moleskin for nay blisters...well thanks ladies for your info and advice, glad to hear back from you

You can bring the contacts but you will PROBABLY have an eye exam and be issued "Birth Control Glasses" (called that because they're so ugly no one would want someone who's wearing them.. Big Grin )
----GET USED TO GLASSES.
You can't wear Contacts in the field, or downrange. (Iraq, Afghan, etc...)
Once you get out of AIT you can get army-issue regular looking glasses.

Alright so everything on here is saying to bring sports bras. I wear a D, would a sports bra really work? I haven't worn one in years.

While I'm not in the army I am a triathlete- I do a wee bit of running. (better pt score than my husband- woot!)

I love my sports bras by Champion. They come in cup sizes and they hook in the back. Khols carries them.

Good luck and enjoy!
