I am wondering if any one knows the rules for family day at Fort Jackson? My children live with their father, but we are divorced...so on family day, will he be able to attend graduation with my children? Will he be able to sign for me to go do things with them on the time available? I have heard that only your parents and spouse could sign for you. Any information would be appreciated.

I am taking it that you are in basic and not AIT. I would hope the command could make an exception to that policy so you would be able to see your children. I would suggest talking to your drill sergeant and asking him/her. I believe even in basic that commanders have an open door policy. You can always say you want to utilize that. But I'm not saying they have to honor your request.

This is from the Fort Jackson website:
quote:
Graduating soldiers with visiting adult family members (spouse, parents, grandparents or legal guardians) may, at their commander's discretion, receive an on-post pass on Family Day and an off-post pass following Graduation.

Note the keywords being "commander's discretion". I would bet the commander has the authority to grant you a pass.

By that I didn't mean that they could deny you the right to the open door policy. I meant the commander could say he doesn't approve of the pass. I BELIEVE even in Basic that this is a right. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I'm sorry, I'm just curious, but this is way off topic... are you in BCT right now?

No I am not. I do not think that you get computer access in bct. I am trying to prepare for everything before leaving.

Oh, ok, that's why I was asking. I knew they had gotten lax but I didn't think they had gotten that lax. Sorry to go off-topic.

Hopefully if you keep your nose clean work hard during you BCT then when it comes time for you to face this problem your DS and CO can hopefully see that you are a responsible enough person to be allowed the exception. I would hope that since your kids will be with him they do let you.

Good luck and have fun at basic!

I would highly, highly, suggest to not go straight for the Commander and ask him/her directly...go through your Drill Sergeant.

Lead by Example!!!
