Ok me and a couple of guys thinking about putting in recruiting packets. So I'm speak for 3 guys in this post. Sorry if any of it gets confusing. I'll gladly try to sort it out if it gets too bad.
One of the guys has a GT of 99 and the other 103. I got a 112 so I know I'm good, what about the other 2? Do/can they get waivers for their GT?
One of the guys is single now but getting married when we get back from this deployment. Should he put his packet in as single or married? He also has a daughter enrolled in Deers. Will that be a issue if they didn't get married right away?
The other guy is a SPC (P) and just waiting on points to drop. He has a wife and 3 daughters. Is there a limit to how many dependents that a person can have? Does he have to put in for the CPL recruiting program or can he put in as a SGT because he has his P?
Last but not least. The checklist we downloaded from the USAREC website says that we need a DA photo or a photo of us in our ACU's (since we are deployed) and it has to be on a 8X10 white sheet of paper. Now no one in my company has a printer that prints pictures. Can we just take our picture and print it out on a normal color printer and that work or does it need to be an actual picture?
Any help will be greatly appreciated. Any other advice on getting the paper work done faster, how to get a specific station, or just anything that anyone finds helpful would be awsome. Thanks in advance.

I know the GT can be waiverable to 100 but must have a ST score of 100 or higher, so the one with 99 I owuld suggest taking the FAST class, even if he doesnt do Recruiting, the SPC (P) cannot do CPL Recruiting b/c he is promotable and Cannot be a single parent, Not have more family members (spouse included) than: 2 for SGT, 3 for SGT(P), 4 for SSG and 5 for SFC (W)
So that SPC(P) according to this cannot do either CPL or "regular" Recruiting since he is Promotable, and has too many family members (but notice the "W" on that so it means it could be wiaverable...the one with the 99 GT score needs that class, the picture I have no info on...
Oh and my favorite requirement: US Citizenship, I was sent back after 2 weeks of school b/c I didnt have it yet....

Really sit down and think about the decision you guys are making. Recruiting will be a life altering experience. This by far the worst job I've ever had in the Army. Deployments are "Heaven" compared to Recruiting. If you have the time, stop into your local recruiting station when you get back, and have a converstion with some of the DA select recruiters....
Originally posted by 19D-Scouts Out: Well I dont know how you all can say that becoming a recruiter is so bad everyone has there own view of things. I mean someone has to do it and me personally if my recruiter had have been some civilian I wouldnt have joined, but alot of people (well most soldiers) say that being 19d is stupid and that they wouldnt do it and all that but u got soldiers who like doing it no matter how dangerous it is and to say "deployments are heaven compared to recruiting" you must have not been where alot of has been and see what we seen but thats just my two cents.
This is probably one of the most ridiculous posts I have read. Everything you write on this site is all about how much you've done and seen and all about 19D's, etc. Do you honestly think that you are the only Soldier who is fighting in the war right now? I'm quite certain that you haven't been in the Army long enough to back up half of what you proclaim and this is not the first post you have left where you make assumptions about a certain duty or MOS. By the way..your posts are very similar to SHOOTASHANE's posts--I wonder why.

well ccmsg if u really want to know I havent done nothing no other soldier has done but for u to say my post is ridiculous because I said that I would rather recruit and drive a goverment car then be here in iraq this makes me laugh. Believe me I know that im not the only soldier who fought the war but I bet u didnt fight it like many of us, and telling someone how it is ridiculous, all I ever said on any post is that 1. you dont want to be a scout unless u are ready to deal with death 2. being a tanker would be a cool job but u wont drive tanks because we have tankers that drive our strykers 3. never say that a deployment is heaven compared to recruiting because if u said that then u must have never humped for miles on patrol in the summer in baghdad!!! so tell me what I said there that is soooo great!! Nothing just regluar soldier stuff and your right I only got 3 yrs in the army being a SCOUT and I will probably out rank u soon and yes im proud of my mos hell I should be can u do it??? and shootshane who the hell is that??
I have to sort of laugh about the whole going back between you guys but here is my take....Saying you don't want to be a Scout unless you are ready to deal with death is ridiculous....And before you go off, I was a Scout (SF now) and I know the job, any combat arms jobs and combat support jobs see death everyday in Iraq and Afghanistan....Its the nature of the war and its just how it is.
Just be careful what you write on here as far as making assumptions about what people have and have not done. You have 3 yrs in the Army, your young, I was fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan before you even enlisted.
In the end some people hate recruiting and some people like it. If these three guys want to do it more power to them. Makes it so other guys wont get DA selected to do it.
getting back to the original post...you soldiers may want to talk to you CoC about S-RAP befor you make your final decision on becoming a recruiter...S-RAP is Special Hometown Recruiting Assistance Program...its a program designed to give soldiers returning from deployment a chance to go and speak to members of their community about the army and the army life...i believe its a 14 day tour in your hometown or your recruiting station you signed up at...i did Hometown Recruiting after graduating osut and i enjoyed it...i don't think i want to be a recruiter, but i'm not gonna knock it...it seemed like fun, but too much paperwork...keep us updated on what you find out

jgarner, the SRAP program sounds interesting, can you tell me anything more about it? I went to the website and USAREC, but didn't find much. I want to know if I have any say in where I'd go for the program, what ranks are eligible, and how long after the deployment ends I would be eligible.
To echo what JWEEZY said, you can't judge what anyone has done by thier MOS is this war. I'm an 88N, and supposed to in the TOC or an office somewhere. I ended up as a distribution squad leader in an FSC driving LHS and HEMTT tankers around Taji and Baqoubah. I know a 42A and 13W who ended up as a squad leader and PSG in in a line platoon in an FA unit with an Infantry mission. Another 88N was tasked to run the mortuary. There's plenty of death to be seen without even leaving the FOB.

well from my understanding srap is a 2 week tour at the recruiting station you signed up at, your duties will be shadowing a recruiter and at times a recruiter will just be there for technicalities, you will do everything a recruiter does, you will tell your stories of how great the army is, etc...the main purpose of this is to get people in your community to join the army...all enlisted (E1-E9) and junior officer (O1-O3) ranks are eligible...however srap and hrap are reserved for soldiers returning from deployment and bct/ait respectively...i'm not 100% sure on how long after you return that you would be eligible, i do know however, that the 14 days you are on srap/hrap are counted as non-chargeable leave...if i find any more info out i'll post for y'all

Stonewall, what are your and your friends reasons for wanting to recruit? Im asking because if you read the threads about recruiting, you wont find many positive comments about that job. There is one about an E6 who chose to end her career because the Army forced her to recruit and there are all kinds of comments from recruiters that would rather spend a year in Iraq than do that job again. Personally, my squad leader is going to be picked up after we get back from out tour and he hates the idea of doing it.
So long story short.....I hope you are wanting to recruit in order to help the Army because for any other reason, Im pretty sure you will get sick of it and then hate it. Then you will come back here and post about how much you hate recruiting.
Yeah I've read all the stories, I've got a couple of guys that were DA select and they hated it to. Maybe all sand has gone to my brain, but I think it would be a interesting experience. I'm always looking for a challenge and I personally think that will be a good one for me. Hopefully I won't be one of those people that come back here complaining about how much I hate it. Plus like I asked any advice from anyone would help out. If someone hated it for a certain reason maybe I can do something different that way it don't affect me the same.
