I guess that's quite possible. I remember I took my ex-wife to her first drill as a reservist and the 1SG came out in BDUs but no hat and his blouse was unbuttoned and open because it was hot out. Too funny.

Tell me if this is career enhancing:

There is a SFC who is newly promoted and just got out to his detailed recruiting tour. He obviously does not want to be out here and for good merit. This soldier will be five years behind his peers once he is done with his tour, and this is how. In every CMF (Career management field) to be competative for promotion to the rank of MSG, a SFC needs (at a minimum) 2 years of Platoon Sergeant time. There are some exceptions but the time frames are consistent. Either 2 years as a Platoon Sergeant or some other occupational pillar. Now while his peers are being rated at whatever operational piller needed to be competative, he will be rated for a period of three years as a detailed recruiter. It will take two years after this soldier returns from recruiting duty to reach the point that his peers will achieve in two years from the time that he reported for recruiting. Recruiting is not like Drill Sergeant where as a senior drill is rated as a Platoon Sergeant and most senior boards look upon drill duty as leadership time. Recruiters get rated by their rank and as a 79R (ie...E-5, 79R2O; E-6, 79R3O; E-7, 79R4O). This duty is not counted as leadership time by senior enlisted boards. As I stated in my first post, the best recruiter in this station recieved a substandard NCOER, so this guy will be much further behind his peers if the ratings continue to be poor as they are currently. Career enhancing; not now, it may have been in the past, but now does not seem to be.

In general terms, usually selection boards AAR comments include that soldiers will not be looked upon unfavorably for serving in tours that they have no control. In other words, I shouldn't be punished for being an instructor, a DS should be punished, etc. I'm not saying you're wrong, I'm just pointing out what I've read.

No beat down here ... you're venting your frustration and telling your seide of the story. You can bash USAREC all you want (it's you telling a story).

The only thing I have a problem with is a senior NCO giving deliberate advice on how to avoid duty.

i'm so happy that there are senior ncos that tell it like it is... Roll Eyes

from the NCO Creed:
...I am proud of the Corps of Noncommissioned Officers and will at all times conduct myself so as to bring credit upon the Corps, the Military Service and my country regardless of the situation in which I find myself...

...I will be loyal to those with whom I serve; seniors, peers, and subordinates alike. I will exercise initiative by taking appropriate action in the absence of orders. I will not compromise my integrity, nor my moral courage. I will not forget, nor will I allow my comrades to forget that we are professionals, Noncommissioned Officers, leaders!

but thats just my 2 cents...

Also, if you have never been on recruiting duty, then you have no place to talk. Only those who have been on this duty have a stake on this thread. Those who spout off comments like: I do what I am told and I would never try to get out of a duty for which the Army chose for me need a reality check.

YOU HIT IT RIGHT ON THE HEAD!!!!!!!!

I guess my only feeling about this is kinda along the same vein as JGarner... Bitching about recruiting is like bitching about deployment... you have given your freedom over to the Army to protect the freedom of others. If the Army says go here and do this then you should go there and do that. Quit whining and grow a pair.

I am not saying that recruiting doesn't suck... I am sure it probably does... that being said there are many people that think deploying sucks as well and why is it "OK" to whine about a recruiting duty but if those same Soldiers complained about deploying they would get the "grow up and accept it, what did you think you joined the Army for, etc." speech.

There are MANY people in the Army doing things they never thought they would have to do and would rather not be doing but all those BS details are part of the Army. This isn't a buffet and we don't get to pick and choose what we do and where we go.

If your Command/Unit/Branch etc sucks then quit bitching and try to fix it. Otherwise feel free to vent but please stop trying to pass your bad experiences out to others to try and prevent them from doing the jobs you are only to eager to get out of doing.

As far as being a Super Soldier I never pretended to be but I know I have never given someone advice on how to avoid their duty and sure as hell haven't whined incessantly about the duties I have been given.

If you are arguing over an internet message board... you have already lost the arugment.

Now can we move onto helping soldiers with other issues.

If you really want to know how to get out of recruiting duty PM 13BangBang... he seems to have a few ideas how to do that. (for better or worse) The idea has been put out there... some Joe somewhere will get on google and find this thread and they can PM him for all the info they might ever want.

It seems a bit bizzare to argue about anything over the internet and actually think you are going to change an opinion on something. I argue enough in person everyday as I am sure that the rest of you NCO's (or will be soon)Do with people in your respective platoons, sections or shops... It is hard enough to change hearts and minds in real life, wtf is it going to do on a message board?

Lets move on...
