Okay I was wondering if anyone out there know about switching with someone. I have another qualified NCO of my same rank in my unit who will be more than willing to switch with me. Does anyone know how I go about doing that? Where can I read about it? Who do I contact?

AR 614-200, Chapter 5: 5–11. Exchange assignments a. For mutual convenience, Soldiers may request on a DA Form 4187 (Personnel Action), exchange assignments, often referred to as SWAP assignments (current duty only), with other Soldiers. Both Soldiers must agree and be of the same grade and MOS and be similarly qualified. The initiating Soldier must include the following statement on the DA Form 4187: “I have read and understand the provisions of AR 614–200 and hereby waive any and all claims against the U.S. Government for transportation for me, my family members, my household goods, and my personal property incident to travel and shipment resulting from reassignment from (current station) to (new location), as requested by me. I further agree to waive any and all claims against the U.S. Government for mileage allowance and/or per diem allowance for me and my family” and include the other Soldier’s statement. b. Exchanges must be CONUS to CONUS or OCONUS within the same OCONUS command. c. The commanders of both Soldiers concerned must concur in the proposed exchange assignment and agree on the date of assignment. d. Soldiers must have served at least 12 months at current duty station and have at least 12 months time remaining in service upon arrival at the gaining installation. e. Soldiers will pay all costs incurred in relocation, and all travel time will be charged as ordinary leave. f. Eligibility for foreign service does not change, and no stabilization period is authorized for either Soldier. g. Soldiers in receipt of AIs, or in a deployed status, are not eligible. h. If a married Army couple currently occupying a common household is separated because one Soldier is granted an exchange assignment, the other Soldier may not apply for reassignment to the same installation to reestablish a joint residence.
Will this apply t soldiers that are trying to switch from DA selected school? I am not on assignment anywhere, I have just been informed that I have to go to recruiter school. Both myself and the soldier that I want to switch with are in the same unit. Thanks
I don't usually read or write in blogs because it just makes me mad. I felt so strongly when I caught this quote on a google search for something completely different that I had to register just so I could respond!
BLUF! Do your job SGT! The Army has given you a mission now do it. If your Commander gave you an order to complete a mission in Iraq or Afghanistan you wouldn't get on a blog and complain about it. Those were the words to me when I was a disgruntled recruiter. Those were the words that turned my recruiting experience around. Once I embraced the mission(I did hate it from time to time)I became successful.(Gold Badge w/3 sapphires). It was a very stressful job that I hated a lot... but I wouldn't change the fact that I did it. I learned a lot about myself and Soldiers... people in general. What I learned made be a better leader because I could relate to variety of backgrounds that our Soldiers come from. It is a huge pain in the ass to be a recruiter, but the Army rewards you for it. It will help you in the future.
What really fired me up though were the responses from other NCO's. All of those responses should have been supporting SGT Watkins not giving her ways to avoid her responsibilities.
If you truly are willing to sacrifice your career to avoid recruiting GET OUT THE NCO Corps doesn't need you! There are other NCO's pulling their weight in recruiting and most of them didn't want to do it either. Recruiting is the number one priority in the Army, period! Without Soldier to fill the boots no mission can be completed.
I understand the desire not to do something like Recruiting but the Army has seen something in you and honestly is trying to help you.
I don't want to go to Drill Sergeant school but I am not willing to ruin anything I might get two years down the road. I have faced the fact that the Army has seen something good in my for what ever reason, been in 4 years and an E-5 for a little over a year. I got the orders for school the month I hit my 4 year and 1 year as an NCO mark. I have my ideas about how it happened but as a female yes stuff is handed to you in the Army, I have seen it happen. I have seemed to have to fight to get what I want due to having NCO's that do not think females in the Army can hold their own.
1SG I agree the Army rewards NCO's with positions of Recruiting or Drill Sergeant. They don't just say ok here is an NCO with this much time in so lets pick him or her. They look at what you have done and sad to say I am giving in more and more each day, hey the Army is helping me advance!! Maybe some day I will be a SFC or MSG if I stick it out that long..
When I came back from deployment the last thing I wanted to do was go on Recruiter duty. Sometimes, people think that the grass is greener on the other side because as a Recruiter, you are non-deployable for 3 years. But the truth is that my chances of dying are greatly increased due to all the driving I do and the amount of time I spend in the "hoods". The work hours are insane and the job is extremely demanding. If you lose your license I can see you riding with another Recruiter to make mission. They expect you to go to great lengths to put people in the Army at a fast pace. It is a thankless and unforgiving job. But....... the US Army puts more trust and responsibility in it's NCO's that any other nation in the world. Our bold claim that "NO ONE IS MORE PROFESSIONAL THAT I" is something that no one else can say. If this job had been easy they would have given it to the Officer Corps. I feel for you because you just redeployed and I can understand where you are coming from. If I could get out of Recruiting I would. But I will not leave here without being successful first. When everything seems bad, turn to those who love you (including GOD)for strength. Take some leave and regain your strength, then let us know what you decided.
Hello, i find it quite funny someone trying this hard to get out of recruiting duty , i am curently trying to appeal a type II for 2 credit mishaps that happened over 4 years ago so dont sweat it if you have all that you will probaly have to file an appeal to go do the duty although you probaly will haft to attend school but as an nco also with 2 deployments you should suck it up and drive on.
It means its her career, not the Army's. She should take control of it before someone does.
An NCO in my platoon is in the same boat, he is a very capable and competent NCO who worked his butt off to fast track his career because he likes leading troops (we are combat arms). Now, after his deployment this summer he is going to get stuck either being a DS or a recruiter.
He didnt bust has ass just so the Army could pull him from the line, he did it because he wants to lead guys in war.
God forbid someone starts thinking and making decisions for themselves; although, in her case, I think there are plenty of ways to remove herself from the list and still keep her self-respect.

But he did sign a contract, and if he is given a mission he needs to do it...yeah even if its Recruiting.
Lead by Example!!!
