Well I dont see why anyone would want to get out of that duty??? I mean after kicking down doors here in baghdad and getting shot at and blown up and losing friends on top of missing my sons birthdays (yes 15 months is enough time to miss 2) and knowing that we already have a slot to do it all again in 2010 is a headache but dont get me wrong I love my job I choose my job but I would love the chance to get off the line for 2 years and get that duty. That way I can spend time with my family and not go to the field every other month so u lucky bastards who get that chill duty and not want it be sure to know that theres thousands of other soldiers (shooters) who would love to take sometime off and be home so when u think the army has it out for u remember there are some who is worst off then you

This is so true. There is nothing "chill" about working 12-16 hour days, running and tracking down civilians, processing waivers, making phone calls to idiots, oh yea and by the way if you're not careful you will still miss your kids birthday, all without being deployed.
So before you talk about the duty, please please walk the walk.

19D-Scouts Out,
If I could trade Recruiting Duty with you I would in a heartbeat. I would not even have to think twice about it. I know I have to do Recruiting because the Army said so but I would love to actually do my job, the job i signed up for. Even if it meant deploying. So please if you can figure a way for us to trade sign me up..lol

Im surprised this thread is still going.

Karen, you made a hard decision and I hope it works out for you. With as much time as you've put in as well as your deployments, you deserve it.

I applaude anyone who makes a difficult decision like this and follows her true desires. It takes a much more resolute person to stay true to themselves and their beliefs than to simply shrug your shoulders and say "Thats just how the Army is".

I wish you the best of luck.

The most disturbing part about all of this is the fact that the OP doesnt seem to care about the Soldier that will have to fill her shoes if she gets out of this assignment. Believe it or not but you are not the first person to get orders for recruiting that did not want to do it.

The actual job of recruiting can be a rewarding experience. To have a young man or woman come back to you after completeing thier training and thanking you for the oportunities you gave them is a great feeling. The recruting part of the job is great. Its the leadership in recruiting that makes is unpalitable for many. The leadership is full of saleman NCOs and nervous officers that are worried about what their evals will look like if their company/battalion doesnt make numbers.

My advice is to do your best. Not everyone can go out and sell refidgerators to eskimos but you never know til you try. Dont try to push off your assignment onto someone else who probablly doesnt want to do it either.

IF STATION CMD STARTS ASKING FOR APPTS AND PEOPLE TO PUT IN THE ARMY. ASK HIM OR HER FOR NAMES AND PHONE NUMBERS FROM THEIR CELL PHONES. IF THE HAVE FRIENDS AND FAMILY THAT THEY CAN NOT GET TO JOIN THE ARMY. TELL THEM THAT THE SAME REASON WHY THERE PEOPLE WANT JOIN IS THE SAME LAME REASON YOUR PEOPLE WANT JOIN.

From one Scout to another Scout....remove head from ass and take my word for it that Recruiting duty simply isnt worth it.

Whats not to love about the field? I love the field... its the only time other than deployment we get to do anything related to our job.

Nothing is better than being a Scout, Tab jobs excepted, in my opinion...

If you ain't CAV, you aint....
