So I have a sneaky feeling that I have been royaly screwed by USAREC. I came down on orders for recruiting at the end of my deployment and didn't have enough time in service to meet the 3 year requirement. I didn't know anything about a dec statement to get out of it at the time. So I went to school and they said my gaining unit had to extend me and then when I got there they said the schoolhouse was suposed to do it so I kept getting the run around for about 8 months. I didn't want to extend I just wanted to get back to the line. So now they just had me sign it and I have 8 months left till ETS. The first reason I'm pissed is that had I known I could have signed it earlier I might have been able to PCS to a one year tour in Korea to finish out my time. The second is now that I signed it I'm flagged right? I was told I can't receive points for the contracts I put in the Army so why did they keep me hear until I can't PCS if all the work I do for the next 8 months isn't going to give me any credit? I love the army but usarec is retarded and I just want out so bad there is no way in hell I was going to reenlist if it meant I had to do another year and a half of this crap.

Im really surprised that you got assigned as a recruiter and even went to the school/training....WITHOUT having extended or re-upped. Im 99.99% sure, that is supposed to be done PRIOR to departing your losing unit.

I don't understand tho...you reported and completed school without extending. Then you got assigned AS a recruiter also, and still had not extended. THEN......you signed a dec statement? Well heck...you were already there. What are you "declining"??

I see but...man...

I get that part.

But soldiers every day, come down on orders for PCS, Recruiter, etc every day....sometimes even like a few months AWAY from ETS! I have seen a soldier come down on orders for Germany with 3 months left in the Army. Which the top of the orders say "to comply or whatever w/ this assignment....you must extend or re-up to meet the time requirement, etc" You extend or re-up == you go / If you dont ==you dont go.

They can re-up or extend and go on to that assignment......OR choose to ETS and then of course not.

Did you sign something as reporting to the school...or during the school that stated you "WILL EXTEND" to meet the SRR/ADSO?

Maybe im missing something too, I probaly am.... and im not a SME either. Hmmmm....

Did this owrk out? I also came up on DA selectedd orders and would rather stab myself in the face than add any more time to my contract. Is it possible that I could get through school and to my pinpoint location without ever having to extend, and then sign a declination statement refusing to extend while I'm there???

No, if you do not sign a DCSS (or reenlist) within 30 days of EDAS transmittal date one will be placed on you.

LOL I got screwed the other way around...I wanted to go Recruiting, put in my packet, re-up'd for it, went to the school and got sent back b/c my citizenship paperwork wasnt done...got back to my unit, and I was put on orders for Korea ASAP by my branch, even though they knew I was in the process...so now I havent even tried getting back to Recruiting.
