I am putting together my volunteer recruiter packet but am pending a summarized article 15 that my commander is sitting and waiting until just before block leave before enforcing it so I lose my leave. Should I wait until after the Art. 15 is complete before trying to finish my packet? Will this affect me at all from being selected?

Has anyone else ever had a summarized art. 15 and been picked up for recruiting? I really am a good SGT and feel that this article 15 is kind of BS. This is my first negative thing on my record in the military. I got in trouble for trying to help out a soldier and pretty much took the fall for something stupid. (moved one piece of equipment from one military vehicle to another)

Do you think this will stop me from being selected?

R6, I would try and volunteer. I am a recruiter and work with a recruiter that has received a company grade art. 15 before he became a recruiter. A summarized art 15 isn't even administrative (does not reduce rank or forfeit pay), and therefore does not follow you.

BUT here is the USAREC link http://www.usarec.army.mil/hq/recruiter/Index.htm . click on the link then click on program overview. Then stroll down to sub paragraph (r). It states, "No law violations such as courts martial, felonies or moral/integrity violations".

WORD TO THE WISE: Recruiting is NO JOKE when it comes to integrity. You will face so many dilemas and pressures constantly out here that your integrity will come into play everyday!! SO, if you are not ready to say no to questionable activity, recruiting is not the job for you. Just keep that in mind!

Technically couldn't you classify every single incident anyone has ever gotten an article 15 for as a "moral/integrity violation"?

Normally I consider myself a person of high integrity but this one incident kind of caught me off guard and I pretty much took the fall for another soldier to cover his butt. So I think if I do get selected I could handle the pressures.

I think my main question is: Will having pending UCMJ actions (or getting flagged because of it) stop the packet from going through?

Here is the thing. For recruiting duty you need at least three years left on your enlistment contract. If you don't have three years left then you would need to reenlist. a flag prevents you from reenlisting and attending military schools (AR 600-8-2) The good thing is that the flag only lasts as long as the punishment and punishment for a summarized 15 is very short. SO, for now the packet will not be approved, but after your punishment has be served you should be good!

Do you suggest that I wait til the punishment is over (only 7 days extra duty) and then submit it? I am just waiting on the reading of the article 15 which might not be til May. Can my commander do this? Wait until he feels ready to finish the Article 15?

Trust me. That is a good thing. Tell you what you do since you have time. Go to your local recruiting station and talk to a couple recruiters about the job. Don't talk to the Station Commander or any of the guys who are 79R's or have the little recruiting awards...Find a recruiter who was DA selected. The guy who was better off in the mainstream, and talk to him about recruiting then worry about your waiver.

Yes true, take SF Support's advice. Like I said before, recruiting is no joke!
