I have a question to see the potential for me to volunteer for recruiting duty. I am a SGT(P) with over 4 years TIG/over 10 years TIS/and have 4 dependents.I got the following off of the USAREC website: (2) SGT(P) or SSG: Maximum 12 years TIS (W) (3) SGT: Maximum 8 years TIS (W) (t) Not have more family members (spouse included) than: 2 for SGT, 3 for SGT(P), 4 for SSG and 5 for SFC (W) I know that these requirements are waiverable but what roughly are the chances of a case such as mine being waived? Thanks to anyone who has been there or has insight into the program.
As long as none of your four dependents have medical issues that require special attention, it's very possible, but you need to contact the USAREC POCs to get things started.
I have another question for ya. Why do you want to recruit?
If you have any doubts submit it the volunteer request. All the DA selected recruiters love people like you. USAREC will make sure that you get what you want. Quick question. why do you want to be a recruiter? You got some problems or something? Please don't say I can't get promoted, or I'm tired of deploying. Those don't count.
Thanks for the comments. No I'm not a deployment dodger and I am more than capable within two semesters to get promoted. It is just that I have been looking at a short term that could lead to long term career change. I have spoke with many people in my MOS that eventually became retention NCOs and loved it and got good career progretion.
Retention is different from being a recuiter. Thats actually not a bad gig, but this recruiting is not what you want. One of the moderators is a career counselor, you need to hit him up. He is very informed.
If you want to go recruiting, good for you. After three years of successful recruiting, your can easily cross-walk to Career Counselor (79S). I didn't go this route, but from what many friends have stated, the packet processing is easier as a recruiter. You'll still go through the same Basic Career Counselor Course and it won't be any easier while in class, just the packet processing.
Just curious Moderator....would you advise on just trying to become a 79S or go 79R then into 79S? I read your last post but I know of some recuiters that are not successful in getting station numbers and they hate their job because of it. But as a 79S there is more of career guidance and retention. Just wanting to know your thoughts. Thank you.

I spend alot in this community and some questions I receive are very easy and I don't need to search through regulations and policies, but this has got to be the easiest question ever ...
Get with your Career Counselor (to see if you qualify) and start working as a unit Reenlistment NCO. You'll be evaluated for 6 months or so.
Maybe I didn't put my thoughts into a sentence that gave you the idea. this has got to be the easiest question ever ... it was no SO much of a question as much a reply about your opinion...I know the procedures to become a 79S I was asking if you though it was better/easier path to 79S by becoming a 79R/recruiter. Maybe this will be more clear and more of a challenge. Thanks.

It's much better to work as a Reenlistment NCO first and then submit your Career Counselor packet. This may take a year. If you go the Recruiter route, it'll take three years of recruiting.
