On october first i could have been promoted to SPC but im on the fatboy program, im meeting the monthly weight loss im supposed to and i am staying motivated, the only reason i didnt pass was because i lost almost 2 inches off my neck, on the first my unit promoted four soldiers to specialist, one of the four was supposed to be flagged but they neglected to flag him but they still signed off on him getting promoted. My old squad leader who left for warrant school yesterday talked to IG and they said i should talk to them. If i do would there be a possibility i could get my promotion and have it dated back to 1 oct like the rest of the guys, and if i did this would i look like a shit bag? I am doing alot of work and it seems like for nothing! what should i do?

Yay the holidays!

First off, how long have you been in? TIS, TIG? If you are still in the period where you are depending on a waiver before meeting the mandatory promotion then there may be no need to be upset.

Also, promotions for lower enlisted will probably not be back-dated, especially if the major discrepancy involves a flag. The whole "shitbag" outlook may or may not happen. Don't think that all the work you are doing is for nothing. You are helping yourself personally and professionally. Just keep doing what you're doing and someone will take notice.

Few things. I myself know first hand of the "fatboy" program. I know it sucks seeing others getting promoted but if your flagged you won't get promoted. You might want to check your ERB and see if there is a flag code in there. Also, if your meeting the monthly standards your unit should have taken you off. But like durtyboots was asking, if your close to the TIS and TIG they might give the waiver to someone else. You would get you SPC maybe a month later. Hopefully that makes seance. As for IG I wouldn't even try with them. It is very possible your unit messed up the other soldiers paper work and the flag never went in. Sucks it could have worked in his favor and not yours, but it happens. Needless to say though, if the soldier is flagged or not, I would worry more about myself then him. Bottom line is if your meeting the Army standards there is no reason to be flagged. Hope that helps and good luck working on the promotion.

IF, and thats a big IF you win this battle, meaning you can prove that he was supposed to be flagged right along with you...all its going to happen is, he will get flagged like he was supposed to, maybe reduced to PFC b/c it was an erroneous promotion...and you? You will still be flagged, got a guy now mad at you and on the bad side of the Chain of Command...you are thinking of doing this for the wrong reasons, now if you want to do it b/c you know there was something wrong done by all means but you want to do it so you can get promoted when you dont even deserve it.

Lead by Example!!!
