I just re-enlisted last Friday as a Human Resource Info System Management SPC(42F) for 4 years. I am a prior service member(4years) as a Marine E-4. When I talked with career counselor for my options,I don't get any duty station preference. They told me that prior service members don't have that much choices just like take or leave, but I keep my rank which is good.
I have been out for 2 years so I don't have to go to WTC, but my MOS has changed to 46F so I have to go to AIT. My first question is that is there any possible to get an order to get stationed in Korea with command sponsorship for 4 years for my first duty assignment? what is the best ways to get an order to get stationed in Korea?
My recruiter told me that I can request to branch manager to get an order after I get stationed wherever in states after AIT. He also told me that prior service don't get an order to get stationed in Korea for first duty assignment.
My second question is that I heard that Yeongsan base is shutting down within few years so all units are relocating, so if I get stationed in Korea with command sponsorship, where my duty station would be?
Any information will be appreciated.

B/c you are PS you dont get as many choices as NPS do. You could call branch towards the end of your AIT to see if they will give you Korea, now here are a question:

Have you been deployed to Iraq or Afghanistan since 2001?

If your answer is no, then you are not going to be in Korea any more than 2 years, if you go without command sponsorship then you are there for 1 year and can extend or AIP (Assignment Incentive Pay) for another year, thats it. If you have been deployed then you can be there up to 5 years.

Another thing, just b/c you get command sponsorship (apparently there is a lot more slots now, specially for SGT and SSG ranks) does not mean you will be in the same camp as your dependents, they might be in Yongsan and you could be stationed up in 2ID land and can visit them on your time off...

Yes, there has been talks of closing Yongsan and moving everything to Humphreys, to include 2ID which is Camp Red Cloud(HQs is there), Camp Casey and Camp Stanley (where you inprocess 2ID). I dont know if they are moving units yet, I dont think so since when I left they were just trying to start expanding Humphreys to make room for housing and all the units.
