oh snap, pwned! j/k. when i was in germany with the big red one, the division commander issued a division wide memo stating soldiers who are stationed with 1ID will wear the red one patch. once they PCS they will need to switch to the subdued 1ID.

Here is some "Way Back Machine" history for you: Way back when before the 1st ID had the current subdued patch we wore the Bloody 1 combat patch. Those of us who served in Viet Nam and earlier were authorized to wear the Bloody 1 patch even after the subdued patch came out. I am one of the last Viet Nam era vets in the Guard who is authorized to wear the Bloody 1 even though I can wear the subdued patch from Desert Storm. I choose to wear one of my other combat patches instead, but I am just as proud of my war days in Viet Nam and Desert Storm.
