does anyone have info on the supposed 500.00 a month that people who are stop lossed are supposed to get? Was it just a rumor or is there some truth to it?
Not trying to be devil's advocate here, I mean I have a few friends who have been stop lossed, but I don't think it's something that should be expected by anyone.
When you (we) enlisted it's in your contract that at any time you can be stop lossed due to the needs of the Army. Don't get me wrong, it sucks and the cash would be great for a lot of people, but the government doesn't "owe" you for it.
That's just the way I see it though....

I'm not sure but this might apply to people who have fulfilled there 8 year obligation. If they are held over that 8 years then I completely agree they should be paid extra. Regardless of what the "contract" says. It's bad business to treat your employees like that. You don't want your people getting out and talking poorly about the army. I'm not really sure on this stop loss thing though, wait to see if it gets passed first. I'm sure the army will spell it out very clearly once it does.
I like the original bill better though. It was $2000 extra per month. LoL If that were the case I would be extending my contract until i came under stop loss lol.

It applies to anyone who has been stop lossed, whether is was a 2, 4, 6, or 8 year. Regardless, it's in everyone's contract, if you didn't read it the that's not the Army's fault. They already pay extra for the deployment, extra for if you get extended while deployed, extra for being away from your family, and it's all tax free. I just feel like if you signed the line, then you should have read what you were signing.
Like I said, the extra money would be really cool and all that, but it's not "owed" to anyone.

let me rephrase this question. i think i may have hit a nerve with some people. Does anyone know about the supposed 500 a month that was proposed for people who are stop lossed? I signed the contract and all that...I got it. I was just wondering. Who wouldn't inquire about more money.
I have to agree with whiskeywife, more people should read there contract before they complain about the army. I just read it after I reenlisted and you will be surprised what "rights " a soldier really has. Thats just my 2 cents and to get to the post I dont think soldiers should be paid for stop loss, u make so much money while deployed thats more then enough and being a vet reallys helps your career when you finally get out.
Whys everybody bustin this guys chops. If they offered you the money or put it in your check would you refuse it or send it back? He's not the one who petitioned the Gov. for the cash he's just trying to collect on what Uncle Sam's offering.
I was just putting an opinion out there, I'm not saying I wouldn't take it, I'm just saying that I don't think it's needed. If you read my previous post, I said "if you get it, it's cool, I just don't think it's 'owed' to anyone."
Never once did I but any chops.

Im not complaining about being stop lossed. I was just asking if anyone knew anything about the supposed extra money or if it was just a rumor. This post isnt about your personal views about stop loss.

Why not? It's still "in process" so why not give my own personal views about it? Besides, when I said it I meant it. I think by the time it gets to the voting table someone else will have said the same thing "they should have looked at their contracts" and so no one will get it. It's a public internet forum, opinions are freely expressed and (should be) expected.... I'm just sayin....

I am one of those who didn't read until it was too late. Young and immature, I had no clue what I was signing. It's not the Army's fault, it's mine. I blame it partially on MEPS for pressuring me to Hurry up, saying they didn't have enough time for me to read over it. But really in the end, it is all my fault, I could have said, "well sorry, I'll come back when you have more time.". But I didn't. I believe most people don't read it because they wouldn't think that the government would really screw them over that bad or have so many stipulations in it. Which of course, is immature to think lol.

Like Ive said dozens of times in here, the Army is a corporation, a big buisness. In order to attract new blood and to keep worthwhile soldiers, they offer incentives, such as money. If they didnt offer money, then who would stay in? Who wants to spend 12-15 months in Iraq making barely enough money to stay over the poverty line? With soldiers going on their 3rd or 4th deployment, most ppl I know will tell the Army to kiss their ass. They would prefer to enjoy their family, raise their kids and not be shot at all the time. Going on its 6th year, (what conflict has lasted longer other than Korea?) the Army is doling out more more money,(stop loss payments) not because they feel sorry for its soldiers, but in order to sway public opinion. They want to make it sound as though they are concerned about Sgt. So and So whose been away from his son for three years. Bullsht. Its a PR campaign and I hope we the soldiers win. Its the least they can do.

Alright, I was just kinda half joking about people bustin the guys chops. I'm just a firm believer that Soldiers deserve every penny that the Gov. offers them. Even though we voluntarily signed on the dotted line its a tough profession especialy with todays op tempo.
the whole reason why I posted this discussion was to see if anyone had any reliable info on whether or not people who were stop lossed were going to get some kind of monthly payment. It wasnt my intention to start a debate about whether it was right or wrong to give stop lossed people more money. I think stop loss sucks but everyone signed a contract and is going to have to abide by it regardless of whether its convenient or not. But if uncle sam wants to send more money my way you cant get mad at me for inquiring about it. right or wrong
