TDY In Return

Im just about to complete my AIT and would like to know if I need a DA Form 31 to return to my home station. Yes I am TDY in Return.

My current DD Form 1610 cover the date of arrival to school/AIT and Departure.
I did take personal leave in conjunction with travel prior to signing in my TDY Location.

Is there any specific notations or remakes to be placed in order for it not to be chargeable leave?
Or do I even need a leave form at all?

Perhaps, "The purpose of this form is to cover TDY Return travel from Corry Station, FL to Fort Drum, NY and is non-chargeable."

My current unit is tracking my departure but my DTS admin did not specify if I need a DA Form 31 unless I wanted to take personal leave, which I do not, and my travel is also considered a DUTY DAY.

If you are not taking leave after your TDY, you do not need a DA Form 31.

Sir, I thought that in order to travel you have to have an official DA 31. Since he's traveling from his AIT to his home duty station, wouldn't he need a DA 31 to cover him during that time? The 1610 would then establish the travel time authorized (i.e. You are authorized but not directed to Corry Station, FL through the use of personally owned vehicle.)

I have not seen it in black and white but having worked in an S1 before I always understood it that a Soldier has to have an official DA 31 to travel to or from an assignment. Although this is not always done in practice.

I am a former 42A. Anyway, I went TDY twice last year from Korea to Las Vegas to Korea and Korea to Pittsburgh back to Korea, crossing the international date line and my 1610 covered me. I did not need a DA31.

Chief is right, your 1610 should cover your travel time...you get paid for that time, and you shouldn't have to use your leave day for that.
